Bridge TL-MR3420 ver1

Yesterday I decided to flash my TP-Link (tl-mr3420) router to version 1.8.1 and set my router in bridge mode to function as wi-fi repeater.
It works well, however I just noticed that connection drops after 4-5 hours (no internet and cannot connect to the router). You need to reboot the router to get the connection back.
Any idea what's causing the problem? (My internet connection from the main router is pretty stable - no disconnections/timeout at all)

4MB router?
If so that will likely be the problem?
try 1.6.2

Many older routers only had 4MB of flash (to store the operating system)
Over the time the firmware (operating system) has grown.
To try and make it fit they took some stuff out but it broke many things.
They gave up......

try 1.6.2
So if I am going to install an older version, which file extension should I choose.. a factory.bin file or a sysupgrade.bin file?

Update: Currently running version 1.6.2 as per ispyisail advised. What I noticed is that every time I access the back-end of my TP-Link router, my internet connection disconnects.
Any idea what's causing the problem?
