I'm pretty sure I did not "preserve settings" between 1.6.2 and 1.8.1, but I can't get past:
There is an error in User Name
There is an error in PassWord
There is an error in 5GHZ Transmit POWer
There is an error in PaSSWOrd
There is an error in WEP Hex Key
There is an error in PassWord
There is an error in WEP Hex Key
There is an error in RADIUS Server IP
There is an error in RADIUS Server Port
There is an error in Password
There is an error in WEP Hex Key
Changes could not be applied
I have since upgraded to 1.9.2 and I am certain that this time I did NOT preserve settings. Same inability to save the config. Thoughts?

Clear your browser cache and then try again.

Browser cache clearing was a good idea. Should have mentioned that I tried from a completely different browser and laptop with the same ugly results.
But I also remembered the other (bad) thing I did.
* While still on 1.6.2 I did a config backup
* Upgraded to 1.8.1
* Then did a config restore (I believe this is the problem)
* Hoped and upgrade to 1.9.2 would clear it.
* Same errors.
I have run the "firstboot" recovery. No luck. I think I need a more drastic reset/undo of the hash I have made of the config with my "restore".

How do I go forward? Firstboot isn't clearing it.

- Failsafe reset
- Reflash
- Serial connection to reset
See openwrt wiki for more details for your router
serial is your final option

Hi if you cant do a Serial connection then you could try and flash to LEDE or OpenWRT and then flash back to Gargoyle

Thanks for the kind assumption that I wasn't a complete dufus.
When I saw the model was: "ALFA NETWORK Hornet-UB" I downloaded and flashed the "hornet" firmware. Of course I have a "Pocket Router v2" and that firmware works much better!
Lesson I already knew, don't upgrade firmware when you are home sick. Ever!
Thanks again everyone for your patience.
