Two router config question

New to Gargoyle setup, I own two WNDR3700 routers (v1 as gateway, v2 as AP/Extender) and since I was looking into testing openvpn ended up installing 1.9.1 on both.

So far they have worked very nicely and even got openvpn working to a provider with a bit of custom configuration (a bit slow on these aged routers)

However since I was trying to replicate my setup that I had with netgear firmware, I ran into a specific issue I can't figure out.

Router One:
Gateway, static IP: 192.168.1.1 , DHCP enabled

Router Two:
Gateway, static IP: 192.168.1.2 , DNS&Gateway set to 192.168.1.1, same SSID's as Router 1 but different channels for roaming purpose.

Both are connected to each other via Gigabit (Lan-Lan)

However I've noticed that the devices that are hardwired to the second router can't get DHCP from Router #1 so I have to enable DHCP on Router #2 as well or use static IP's on my PCs connected to router 2.

I didn't really want to set Router #2 as Wireless Repeater, since I'd lose wireless bandwidth, but I just wanted to set it as AP/Extender.

Is there some other setup I am not seeing in Gargoyle to set Router #2 as an AP/Extender and using DHCP from Router #1 ?

Thanks

The quickest and easiest way is to set connect via to disabled. This turns it into a dumb switch and you can extend your wifi in this way.
Note that this disables almost all of Gargoyles features.
Any monitoring/quotas etc would be done from Gargoyle router #1

yeah that's what I have.

though I can't disable DHCP on router #2, if I do, connected devices to it, can't get DHCP from router #1 for some reason. I think it might have to do with the fact that the device is configured as gateway ?

So I have it enabled for now... I just put the range of IPs higher, so router #1 DHCP ends up giving most of the IP's...

It should work fine. I've had this setup in my own home for 2 years.

yeah it's working - I was just curious...

though now I need to figure out a different solution for openvpn since the speeds aren't that great...
