I have a humble TL-WA850RE router right now, just installed Gargoyle 1.9.1 after playing around with 1.8.1.

My router has a single radio, so it seems it handles both communications with it's upstream server and also it's clients.

Can I have some suggestions for a twin radio router which works well with gargoyle. I'm assuming that one can config a twin radio router such that each radio handles it's respective tasks exclusively and so more efficiently. If it had a USB port for attaching a hard disk (or maybe a printer) accessible to clients that might be handy. Also sufficient memory for current and future needs (8MB+ I guess).

As for a good new router, it all depends on what you want from it and will you be looking on ebay or getting one box fresh.

If you are looking on ebay you can get the TP-Link wdr3600 TP-Link wdr4500 WD-Mynet N600 WD-Mynet N750
All of thees have both 2.4 and 5GHZ radios and USB + 8 or 16 meg of flash

If you want a router with AC WiFi then the Linksys WRT1xx routers are really good and a lot of the devs on Openwrt and Gargoyle have them.

Am I right in my assumption that I could use one radio for upstream communications and the other for servicing clients?

I presume the gargoyle software interface would change to take into account this additional functionality?

It is fun to poke around in the router with PuTTY, checking out different parameters, for instance the many you can set with uci.

Depending on your network configuration you could do this.
If your upstream is a 2.4ghz network, then you can connect to it, and then rebroadcast a new 2.4 and 5ghz network.
The alternate case is also applicable.

Perfect - that is precisely what I want to do.

Well, in fact, I am already doing that (without 5GHz option of course), but with just the one radio in my humble router. I would hope for improved performance with a 2 radio set up.
