Best Router for 5 Wireless Connections on 15mbps Connection

I have been searching for the past hour and could not find which router would be best suited for use with Gargoyle with my situation. I live with 5 other people, all on wireless, and we have a 15mbps cable connection. I'd like to split the bandwidth evenly amongst the 5 of us so that the internet does not get bogged down when somebody is downloading/torrenting. Which router would suit me best for this application? It does not have to be N, B/G is fine. Any help is appreciated.

If everyone is using wireless then I would recommend the router sold here on the home page. Lots of memory and fast enough and of course preloaded with Gargoyle.
If you need some wired connections then the TL-WR741ND is cheap will work good for you.

HI,
I am planning to use D-link DIR-300 for 10 people using wireless.
Is it OK?
I have loaded it with gargoyle and have some bugs.
All suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks.

I'm guessing you have the A1 version with 4MB Flash / 16 MB Ram
No support for Ralink chipset yet - which is the B1 version
I would suggest either getting the router on the home page
or upgrading to some other router that has 32MB of ram
at the minimum - just for connections, etc.
IF ALL they are doing is internet browsing/e-mail - I would
say yes, it should be ok.
IF ANY of them start doing torrents/P2P - that router will
probably crash and reboot due to low memory errors.
Depends on your usage for those 10 people.
I suggest a different router.

Hello doesitmatter,
Thanks for the advice. Could you explain the Low memory error thing. Does it happen if the person download from filehost. (Maybe this is a stupid question but I want to be really sure). I am guessing that fast downloading will overload the router?
I just found the most stable firmware for the time being for this router as it does not have problems when quotas are added. Latest firmwre have problems when quotas are added all the data disappears.
So any 32mb ram router which is cheap and sable with gargoyle?
If you found 1 in internet, please post the link here or is there any way that the "gargoyle router" could sent to australia?
Kindest regards,
razeen

Hi pbix,
Do you have the complete guide to flash the TL-WR741ND with gargoyle. Could you post a link or something?
Is all hardware version of this router is atheros?
are there others which is not compatible with gargoyle?
thanks

Depends on how many torrents and connections.
I used to have a Linksys WRT54G-TM - which I have since donated.
It had 8MB Flash, 32MB Ram, 200 Mhz processor.
I could EASILY overload it and bring all internet to a crawl when
doing only 10 torrents and not using all my upload/download
bandwidth availability. The router just could not handle that type
of load. The memory was ok, the processor was too slow.
You want to look for a router thats got a 400-500mhz processor
and at least 8MB Flash and 32 or 64MB Ram preferrably for
high torrent / p2p users.
The Asus RT-N16 has 32 MB flash, 128MB Ram and a 480mhz processor
I've run about 15 torrents - counted over 3000 concurrent
connections on the router, and I could still browse internet
and do other things without any issues.
I tested with about 15 different Linux distribution dvd iso images.
GREAT test to try and see if your router can handle a load.

HI Doesitmatter,
thanks for your reply. It is very powerful router and i am really interested in it.
I am assuming that you already installed gargoyle on that router. does it have any specific hardware revision because i dont want to buy a wrong one.
I also need a favour from you to post the instructions or post a link where I could refer as I am new to flashing routers.
And which gargoyle firmware version that best suits this firmware?
Thank you very much for your help doesitmatter. i hope this newbie does not bother you much.
Kindest regards,
razeen

OK... I was using the Asus RT-N16 as an example - it currently
DOES NOT work with Gargoyle - as far as I know - maybe soon?
Buffalo - WZR-HP-G300NH - DOES work with Gargoyle 1.3.9
Has USB port for external USB storage
Has 32MB flash, 64MB ram, 400 Mhz processor, gigabit ports.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Bu ... -HP-G300NH
Can handle a lot of users/p2p as well
Depends what router you can get locally.
The TP-Link routers are also supposed to be good, but I don't
have any around here in my area to play with / test out.
