Hello,

I have installed gargoyle_1.3.9-ar71xx-tl-wr941nd-v2-squashfs-factory.bin to my TP-link WR941ND ver 2.2 It installed fine. After installation i was asked to change the password so i changed it. Then i turned of the router and started again. Now i cant access it. It is not giving me an ip-address nor i cant access it by changing my default ip to 192.168.1.10. Only the power LED and system LED are on and no flashing. Ethernet LED works but no DHCP. QSS button is working as a RESET button. What should i do now ?? Please help

managed to get on web interface of the router again. When i just change the EthernetPort connects to LAN to WAN to configure it for a PPOE after that the router doesn't responds. If I want to save any settings then it just says please wait while settings are saved and the router doesn't responds. No pings, No web access, No DHCP. The only way to come back is the RESET. What is wrong ? How can i configure my router to connect to a internet via PPOE. Please let me know.

Seems like you have some corrupted setting files.

I'll suggest two things. If you can navigate to the System->Backup/Restore page and restore the default settings. Make sure to allow at least two minutes for it to complete. Then reboot and see if things are improved.

If that does not work then SSH into your router (not telnet) and run the command mtd -r erase rootfs_data which should restore you to the default settings.

restored to the default settings and also waited about 5 minutes. Also i have flashed again. But no luck. It shows all installed all features present but just cant save any settings. If i just click save settings then the router just becomes inaccessible until i do a RESET. Any ideas why this is happening ? Tried couple of times already :(

When you do the reset and enter in a new password and timezone,
does it continue OK and get to the main setup screen?

If so, then it is saving config.

Try to do some simple config EXCEPT do NOT do any PPPOE config.

Try other configurations and save settings.

If that works, try other stuff as well.

Before you do any PPPOE settings, do a configuration backup.

Need to figure out which setting is actually causing the issue.

yeah it simply saves time zone and also new password. Then i tried to enable the wireless function then the router gone dead again. Really confused what actually causing this.

Check that thread out too for info.

What I would recommend is restoring the original factory firmware.

From the web page link above, looks like you can just flash it
from OpenWRT - so just flash the factory firmware back on.

Do a couple reset to defaults.

Then go ahead and reflash Gargoyle 1.3.9.

See if that helps with any issues.

Reason I suggest this is I had issues upgrading from 1.3.8 -> 1.3.9

I am sure it was just a glitch, but I had to go in via serial console
to my WZR-HP-G300NH and completely wipe the flash, then I
reloaded 1.3.9 fresh - and it worked fine.

I am not sure how you wipe the flash on the TP-Links though.

Reverted to factory firmware. I think TP-link's memory isn't enough to take the load of gargoyle. It constantly takes up almost 79% of RAM without any configuration. Also it is showing only 28MB of RAM whereas i have 32MB.

Hmm - Eric might have to look at that as far as Memory usage.

On my WZR-HP-G300NH - I've got 64 MB of RAM.

I don't have any of the QoS, or bandwidth monitoring, etc turned on.

I only have ethernet and wireless enabled and am usually
running around 30-31MB of ram Used.

These Atheros 7x series take quite a bit more memory than before.

Maybe something could be stripped out to allow more free RAM ?

Linux uses pretty much all available memory on any platform so do let the fact that it looks like all you memory is used on the status screen bother you. Rather than have memory doing nothing modern OS's use excess memory for buffers to improve performance. They release the buffers as needed to support tasks and kernel requirements.

Gargoyle can work on any router with at least 16Meg of memory. I think it can support at least 512 connections on such routers. Routers with more than 16Meg can support many more connections.

If you want to see this dynamically you can install 'htop' which shows what memory is doing what.

When I look at what you wrote above it just feels like maybe the password is not saving correctly. I want you to try not changing the password when you do the first boot. Just re-enter 'password' as the new password. After you do that make sure you reboot the router and re-enter the password and are logged in. The reason I think this might be related is that when your login sessions times out you get this situation where the pages are cached in your browser but you cannot save settings. Just a hunch.

The other thing you might do is post the contents of your dmesg and logread output after you boot and try to save one time. This might give a clue as to what is happening.
