Problem with wrt54g

I installed the latest gargoyle on my wrt54g v2 and it worked fine. Then I did something silly with the static routs and now I cannot connect access the web interface. I tried flashing through tftp but I got timeouts although I am not sure I am doing tftp correctly. I did not have ssh enabled. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1) Install Wireshark on your computer.
2) Configure your computer with static IP 192.168.1.2
3) Connect your computer to LAN port on the router with a cable.
4) Start Wireshark and monitor the LAN connection
5) Powerup your router, when wireshark shows the first packet from 192.168.1.1 immediately press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for three seconds.
6) Router power LED should be flashing quickly. (Failsafe mode)
7) From a command prompt on your computer "telnet 192.168.1.1"
8) From the command prompt if the router "mtd -r erase rootfs_data"
9) Reboot your router which should now come up in its default Gargoyle configuration.

Good luck

I did exactly as you said and I get this:
Connecting To 192.168.1.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed

The power LED is blinking rapidly from the moment the router had power. Is it relevant that I had set the router's IP address to be 192.168.1.128 when I was configuring it initially?

Wireshark shows that I receive exactly one packet from source 192.168.1.1 and no more. Thanks

Well you can try telnet 192.168.1.128 but my understanding is that the router IP is fixed in failsafe mode to 192.168.1.1.

When booting the router the power light naturally flashes but in failsafe mode it flashes faster. You should notice this difference. Try holding the reset button a little longer when the packet comes. If you are sure that you did the exact sequence I gave you then I do not know what is wrong. Perhaps you corrupted your firmware image doing the tftp stuff you tried.

Normally if I cannot get failsafe mode to work then its time for the JTAG cable. You can get them for $10 on Ebay.

After flashing new firmware with tftp did not work I put the router away for a bit. Now I have fixed it. I used a rasberry pi and tjtag-pi to reflash the cfe. Then used the rasberry pi and tftp to upload a new firmware image and now everything works. I had to first load an old firmware with tftp becuase apparently it has to be less then 3 MB to load using tftp. Thanks for your help pbix and many other people on the internet.

May be he's traveling with speed = ~0.99c so time is much slower for him :)
Anyway, it is impressive...
