Just thought that I finally had the courage to manipulate the TP-Link firmware image to remove the boot loader, and re-flashed it using the Gargoyle web interface. After some moments of panic when I couldn't access it under normal router ip address, I tried the tplinklogin.net and that worked.

So: also for h/w version 2.1 of the router, the factory firmware can be stripped of its boot loader using "dd if=orig.bin of=tplink.bin skip=257 bs=512"

hi holger,
I just bought 1043 v2.1. Its wifi hangs after certain inactive period. I have to push the wifi button and everything back to normal.

Do you have this problem with your 1043 v2.1 firmware ?
Do you have this problem with Gargoyle firmware ?

I am new and how to operate stripped of its boot loader using "dd if=orig.bin of=tplink.bin skip=257 bs=512". run this command in window command line or ...
If using HEX editor to chop off the first 20200 bytes from the OEM firmware, will this work same ?

Thanks
Paul
