Ok
I will try it tonight.
I'll let you know if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the response.

Ok,
I loaded Gargoyle 1.4.4.
I reset to factory.
Now, when I configure my connection and select DHCP Wireless, no matter what, I don't get the "Client + AP" to come up at all. Just for the heck of it, I tried the "Wireless bridge" option, and after saving changes, the firmware went back to defaults.
It appears that 1.5.1 works better than 1.4.4, but still very unstable.
Do you have any other ideas. I really want to get this to work.
Thanks again
Regards

Update:
I've done a bunch of testing on this.
So far I got the Gargoyle firmware to make a wireless connection to my AP in the "DHCP Wireless" mode and "Client" ONLY. However, I cannot get my router to save the configuration. I can power down my pc without powering off the router, and it saves the configuration. When I remove power to the router, or if I switch to wireless bridge, everything goes back to defaults.
I cannot get "client+AP" to work at all. Incidentally, I switched back to 1.5.1 because I couldn't get "client+AP" to show up.
I have used this router with tomato, and I had it on the router powered off for about a year, and it still held the configuration.
There seems to be some compatibility problem with the wrt54g V1.1.
I'm not sure what to do from here.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

Thanks,
The setup for AP, client, etc. isn't the problem.
I got that to work one time. I could access the Internet ok. The problem is no matter what I do, my router will NOT save the configuration.
Also, the "client+AP", which is what I really want doesn't work at all.
There must be a compatibility issue with my router.
There is NO problem with the AP setup.
If I can't change the configuration in my router, this whole excercise is pointless.
Regards

I had the same problem with my dir-300 a few versions ago
About 10 version latter it came right?
You could downgrade a few versions till you find the one that works?

Try to flash down to version 1.3.9
See if you can get that version to work for you.
1.3.10 and up had newer driver set.

See that post for the details.

I did some testing with my WRT54GL today regarding this subject. The WRT54GL has less memory but a newer SoC than the WRT54G v1.1 as shown here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series
I had no trouble loading either v1.4.4 or v1.5.1 on this router using the web interface. Things are a little slow mind you and took several minutes to complete.
I had no trouble saving parameters so i am afraid I cannot comment on that. Perhaps you could post the results of 'logread' after trying to save unsuccessfully. Again it will probably take 20 seconds to do a save so you need to be patient before concluding that it did not work.
I was unsuccessful in getting Client+AP to work on v1.5.1. It did show up in the pull down list AFTER I selected DHCP(Wireless) for the main WAN interface and got connected to that interface. However, once in this mode the connection to the WAN was lost so there was no pass-through of traffic. I am afraid only Eric will be able to figure out what is going on here. I attach the output of a logread I recorded. There are several ominous messages there, hopefully he can look at it.
In the case of v1.4.1 I could not get the Client+AP mode to show up so I could not test it further.
This function did work in earlier versions so if you can figure out why saves are not working on your router chances are good you could get one of those to work.
Active thread titled "Gargoyle 1.5.1 is not working in Client+AP mode" is not doubt related to this issue.
Obviously this situation can cause frustration on you side. But I hope you can understand that Gargoyle is supporting dozens of router models at this point and it is not possible for us to test every option in every model. Especially given that no one on the development team receives any compensation for the work we do. Being a developer is more of a form OCD than anything else.

No doubt you guys work hard at what you do, and I personally think the whole Gargoyle platform is GREAT.
Now back to responding to your findings. I can load Gargoyle 1.4 and 1.5 fine. I can configure everything ok as well, and I can even save settings ok while in the same session.
However, as soon as I power off the router or make a save that requires the router to reboot, that's where everything gets wiped out.
Conclusion, your findings are consistent with mine except the part where I guess your router permenantly saves the settings even when you power cycle the routher.
So, there is no way I can use this firmware unless I can find a way to AT LEAST have the firware be robust enough for me to make changes that stick.
I have found the some things work when I can keep the changes I have made.
For now, I guess there is nothing I can do except try a different router.
One last thought, I know I have said this in an earlier post, but I have loaded TOMATO firmware, configured it, and everything saves perfectly ruling out a faulty router (NVRAM, etc...). I even had the routher off for more than a year, power it back on and all the TOMATO settings were still there.
Thanks for spending the time to test this. If somebody has any other suggestions on what I can do to make this work, it would be great because I want to use Gargoyle on this router.
Regards

Like I said before, this isn't the WRT54GL apparently, so the comparison doesn't mean anything. In fact in you critically read the openwrt hardware page,
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt54g , it pretty clearly says their is an openwrt problem with the WRT54G v1.1.
"The Linksys WRT54G ver. 1.1 hardware (4 MB of flash) has trouble with OpenWrt 10.03.1-rc6 and maybe all 10.03 releases as of 2011-12-08. In a test with OpenWrt 10.03.1-rc6, the OS will install but LuCI will be unable to update settings because there isn't enough flash left free."
Coincidence, I doubt it.
