Hello all, I have been using Gargoyle and loving it. My only issue is with all my kids streaming video, playing online games etc at the same time, I think it's causing my little GL.iNet AR150 to lock up and have to be reset sometimes. I've read through a lot of info on here and it seems like picking up/flashing an WRT3200 ACM wouldn't be a bad idea. Is this reasonable in 2025? Or is there a newer, better option for this?
Thanks

Re: WRT3200ACM v1 in 2025
The WRT3200ACM is still a powerful device, but it has wifi issues and the driver development was abandoned. It’s ok most of the time, but in certain use cases it can be a poor experience.
I would recommend a GLiNet Flint 2 (MT6000).
Plenty fast, modern wifi, and supported in the latest betas by Gargoyle

Right on, they have some seriously slick looking gear. Thanks so much!
Re: WRT3200ACM v1 in 2025
Can you please describe in short what the Wi-fi issue is and which specific use case it becomes poor?
Is Flint 2 Wi-Fi driver stable at present? Learned that it seems to be not a few months ago.
Thanks.
Re: WRT3200ACM v1 in 2025
Mwlwifi in the WRT series has trouble with
- wpa3 (due to 802.11w problems)
- Certain clients using esp32 wifi chips (commonly in IoT devices)
- mismatched country codes
- DFS instability
- general instability
- zero ongoing development
If you are happy to only use wpa2, and do not have clients that it doesn’t play nice with, it will work “fine”.
mt76 which is used by the Flint 2 is
- actively developed/maintained by an OpenWrt dev, frequent updates
- does not have missing features
- does not appear to hate specific clients
Some users report slight instability on 2.4GHz (from what I have read), but not all.
Overall, I know which basket I would put my eggs in.
