New TL-WR1043ND V3.0 18005 Error

Post by dearmonds2 »

Don't I feel like a dummy. I trusted the Gargoyle website and picked their most recommended router, and went out and paid $140 on amazon.
Firmware: 3.16.9 Build 160122 Rel.38384n
Hardware: WR1043ND v3 00000000

When i tried to load "gargoyle_1.10.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v3-squashfs-factory.bin" or version 11-experimental and I get the following error after shortening filename:

18005-"Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

I tried renaming to TPLINK style as suggested by older posts with no difference.

I see no recent posts about this which make me wonder about the Gargoyle site and application current health. A lot of outdate link and info around which usually isn't good.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jay DeArmond

There is a specific instruction on the version 3 in the wiki that was linked.

I'm sure you can get up and running. In future please feel free to drop a line on the forum if you are unsure of any information on the main site.
Rest assured that development of the project is active and ongoing. The site is not updated frequently.

:?: And is it really v3? do you happen to have TL-WR1043N v5? (find the bottom of the label + v5 has fixed antennas) https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-network ... l-wr1043n/

I had 3x v3 and the upgrade to Gargoyle (even OpenWrt) worked fine.

Some advice is here (probably not as easy as it looks ...): viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7176&start=130#p43402 and if anything else here: https://forum.archive.openwrt.org/viewt ... p?id=69804

Thank you for your response. I am not sure what wiki secret you are speaking of?? I am sure I can get it to work also, I was just hoping someone had a deterministic path vs trial an error for many many hours with a few bricks in the mix. Especially since I went out and bought the router Gargoyle told me to. Thanks, dearmonds2

TFTP instructions are what you want to try, as per this article:
https://jacksontech.net/index.php/2016/ ... ss-router/

There are also TFTP instructions on the wiki, to which i was referring.

Thank you for the response. Yes it is really version three to answer you previous post question. Your links at least talk about my same version of firmware (160122), but saying it is not as easy as it looks is pretty funny as it does not look easy. Since I have not been able to get anything simple to work, I am skeptical and long complicated process will go smoothly. I also don't have a linix machine handy but I can solve that. I may get brave enough to try it in the next fex days, Thanks, dearmonds2
