supported file systems for USB drive in Gargoyle

Post by vplessky »

Hello everyone,

Question to owners of routers with USB port:
what filesystems are supported on Gargoyle out-of-the box?

2nd question: which filesystem you personally prefer, and why?
I did test of different filesystems with OpenWrt recently.
And came to conclusion that ext4 has the best performance for combined reading/writing scenario.
Test has been done using Transcend USB flash drive (32GB).
But results of other people may be different.
In particular- traditional HDD doens't have asymmetrical nature of Flash drive. And potentially may offer better results with different filesystem.

With Gargoyle 1.3.9 -

NTFS

EXT2/EXT3/EXT4

Those were personally tested by me.

I do not know if HPFS is supported for Apple, but they should
be able to use the EXT2/3/4 instead.

EXT4 was showing better performance than NTFS

Stick with EXT4 if you can

2x Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH V1 A0D0 = Gargoyle 1.9.x / LEDE 17.01.x
2x Engenius - ESR900 Stock 1.4.0 / OpenWRT Trunk 49400

Thank you! Just to clarify: NTFS/EXT2/EXT3/EXT4 are supported out of the box? You don't need to install/add those systems manually?
