Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
Hi,
If I sum my data consumption, day by day, I have far more usage than display by the monthly view.
Any idea ?

Yeah, I know about this. This bug has been a thorn in my side for a couple months. I know about it, but tracking down the exact circumstances necessary to reproduce it has proved difficult.
Here is what I can tell you: What is happening is that at some point the oldest (or current if there is only one) time point is getting set to zero (when it shouldn't). I'm pretty sure this only happens after a reboot and the old data is re-loaded. However, if this is the first month, totals start to go back up again, but they aren't as high as they were before. Thus the totals for each day add up to more than the month for the oldest month.
However, while I am reasonably certain it will only happen after a reboot, it doesn't ALWAYS happen after a reboot. It only happens SOMETIMES, and I've been pulling my hair out figuring out the exact circumstances which cause this to happen...
If you can determine a 100% reliable way to reproduce this bug from a clean install, I can probably figure out how to fix it soon. So far though... I've had trouble with this.

I install from scratch on January 3rd. I did several reboots, yes.
Now, the router is on since a few days, with no reboot. I have data from the 3rd to today. I don't really know what I can do more, or what information you need.

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
FWIW, I'm seeing this as well, Gargoyle 1.3.9 on a TP-Link TL-1043ND running Backfire 10.03.
The daily numbers are good, monthly numbers far less than the sum of the daily numbers.
I'm adding the numbers manually right now. We folks in Canada here are getting killed with the low caps; the monthly numbers are critical in managing usage.

Having the same problem here - WRT54GL running 1.3.9
Summed daily usage is 18gb, reported monthly usage is 1.1gb.
Also seeing something else rather odd - ISP is reporting 19.94gb of usage, whereas router summed daily totals = 18...

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
Your ISP is measuring usage across your account, not your router. If DSL, your usage is measured at the BAS, if cable then at the CMTS. That means UDP/Discovery and other traffic are getting counted, as well as other stuff your router usually firewalls off. There's also the 1024k vs 1000k issue. Lots of threads on dslreports.com about this.Spirit wrote:Having the same problem here - WRT54GL running 1.3.9

Would sure love to see this monthly sum bug squashed.
Right now I'm working on a hack to provide a row of sums in the daily stats whenever a month changes, but it looks like dailies only go 28 days. Haven't dug down deeper than that. The js is fairly complex.
Shall we all chip in and offer a bounty?
What say you Eric? Would some grease get the wheels going on this one? Us poor ol' Canadians are getting screwed over by UBB, the monthly stats are crucial.

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
Same probleme for me. I have a WRT54GL and version 1.2.5.
Sum for days are ok, but month are completly wrong.
For example, last month, on person dowloaded 14Go in a day, but the sum for the month is 0!
I would like to help you fix this. Im also ready to donate for the fix. I need this fonctionality to managed the bandwith used by my students that rent rooms in my home.

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
I'm curious to see what's going to happen when the month flips over to March. Currently the monthly usage for February is accurate, but January has been zeroes out. I don't have a handle on the true nature of this bug. When we enter March, will February's monthly number get zeroed out as well?
If that's the case, I need to find some other utility to manage my router - while all other aspects of Gargoyle are fabulous, the lack of monthly reporting is a deal-breaker for me - I need to have reasonably accurate monthly stats.
Eric, are you not open to bribes?

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
Yes, yes I am open to bribes. Honestly, though, this thing has been a thorn in my side for a while and I suspect I want it fixed as much as many of you. I've tried to track it down twice already and keep banging my head against the wall, so... let's make this interesting.
I could just say this will be a top priority (which it is), but I've said that before and I suspect some of you wouldn't believe me. Therefore, I'll throw some money in the pot myself: if someone else can find and fix this before I can, I'll offer a bounty of $250 USD (paid via paypal) in addition to whatever anyone else is willing to throw in. If someone can figure this out before I do, I'm out a large chunk of cash.
In order to collect the reward you must:
1) Submit a patch that actually fixes the problem
2) Be able to explain what was going wrong and *why* your patch fixes it
3) Not completely switch the bandwidth architecture (it has to be a fix to the current system not a whole different system)
4) Make sure your solution doesn't cause the mechanisms that check for time shifts and daylight savings time to stop working (since I'm convinced this is a time-checking related bug of some sort)
Post any questions here.

Re: Monthly bandwidth does not sum correctly
Wow, that's a good chunk of change alright.
I'll add an additonal $100US to the bounty, paid via paypal, same conditions as Eric stated.
I've posted this thread to dslreports.com, there's some firmware gurus over there that might be able to get some eyeballs on this.
