Why plugin-gargoyle-usb-storage is disabled by default for Routerstation Pro ?

arteq: It shouldn't be disabled.Did it not get built in properly?

I see it there in the config file (targets/ar71xx/profiles/routerstation/config):

Code: Select all

CONFIG_PACKAGE_plugin-gargoyle-usb-storage=y

Upgraded my TP-Link WR841ND to 1.3.8

Is it ok to restore settings from backup.tar.gz (saved today, few minutes ago, in 1.3.7), or it is better to re-enter settings manually?

VPlessky - yes - should be fine to restore the backup of 1.3.7 settings

I did it myself

I was running 1.3.7 - backed up my config, upgraded to 1.3.8 via
the web GUI, then re-loaded the 1.3.7 backup config

--------------

USB Storage - working great now!

2 TB - EXT4 formatted hard drive

Can copy files over 2GB now - I tried with 8GB ISO's - copies fine

When setting up the USB storage parameters, after saving,
REBOOT the router to make all settings take effect!

It did not work once I saved, had to reboot router and it worked!

Speed is averaging between 9-10 MB/Sec on copying.

So far it works ok here.

One issue I have. Enabling wireless didnt seemed easy for the router. (DIR-825 rev b). After enabling wireless, the router became unresponsive. Waited a good while, no go. Rebooted once, nothing, not receiving anything from DHCP, static ip wont help either. Another reboot later, the router comes back to life, wireless is enabled and working.

Wireless settings are not shown on the page tho, it defaults as being disabled. Yet my laptop is on the network and it works good. I had this issue with previous versions too.

Im still in the process of reconfiguring the router (preferred a factory default than using backup settings, just to be safe).

edit: small correction in my description of the problem with the webpage. The wireless settings defaults to "disabled" even if it is enabled. Selecting, in my case, "access point" will display all the settings that were previously configured (ssid, encryption, channel #, etc etc). So the settings are saved, just that the initial wireless mode on the page doesnt seem to be selected propedly when loading the page.

@ Eric, other developers:

can you please look at Default Firewall configuration in Gargoyle and WR1043ND - no routing or packet forwarding LAN->WAN ?

I was testing latest 1.3.8 version (installed yesterday)
It seems problem is still present.

In short: default Firewall configuration in Gargoyle doesn't allow traffic from LAN to WAN.
External hosts are not ping'able from LAN.
Adding one rule "All hosts, All days" to White List (Allow) makes external hosts ping'able, and nslookup works from PC connected to router.
But some pings are disappear, and connection is very slow.
Some web page get timeouts.

I hope this is not problem with OpenWrt/Gargoyle, but with firewall settings/configuration.

Hi Eric,

You said here: "This will be somewhat slower on Gargoyle because of the bandwidth monitoring feature, which slows down this connection slightly. However, for most people, the speeds that are possible are well above the bandwidth capacity of their ISP, so I haven't spent too much time optimizing this."
Could you optimize to obtain almost the luci or dd-wrt connection speed?
I really like your web interface.
Thanks.
