Can I limit bandwidth (speed) to an IP address group?

Post by ve6trf »

Is there a way to limit the speed or bandwidth to a slower speed than my normal 25 Mbps to a group of IP addresses? So some IP addresses or MAC addresses I want my default speed and some I want a slower speed (maybe 6 Mbps).

I thought I could in version 1.9.2 but I can't find how I can do it. I'm new to Gargoyle so please be detailed. I'm hoping I can do this.

I'm using an Archer C7 V2. Thanks much.

I would use QOS, and set up a class with a max bw of 6mbps, then create rules to push the users into it.
You'll also need a default class which everyone else can fall into with no limits

OK, I'll have to figure how to do that. I thought QoS was for specific uses like VoIP or certain games. Looks a bit confusing to set up but I'll see if I can figure out how to make it more general for a slower speed.

You can use it to prioritise traffic and guarantee minimum service.
On the flip side, that also means you can deprioritize and limit maximum service too.

The settings should be reasonably straight forward, but if you get stuck come back with what settings you've put in and we can work it from there
