Problems with my TP-Link

Post by Nathansz »

Hey I know there is another TP-Link bug thread and I read all of it but I would really appreciate some assistance with my current problems.

Is the reset button on the back software or hardware? because I accidently turned ethernet off while wireless was off and the reset button did not work, so the box was bricked within an hour.

Today I went and got another TL-WR1043ND v1.7 and set it up again.

I have a crappy Netgear optus cable modem, which is the landlords, and I turned its WAN off and DHCP off.

Then I set the TP-Link (with gargoyle flashed, never had any problems flashing) in bridge mode, and internet would not work untill I manually entered the DNS server and then it worked.

Ran for about 4 hours, during which time I was glued to the bandwidth graphs, I live with 7 other people and it was great to see how much everyone was using, thats what I needed this for.

I accidently selected "save high def.graphs to memory for each user for the last 15 minutes" and this took a while, after it was done, I turned it off again. After this accidental toggle I couldnt see any bandwidth info or quota info in any graphs, so I restarted the box via software.

The TP-Link never worked again, could never get back into gargoyle and no connection was possible after restart. One question as to why this may be:

I read a post that for quota to work properly, it goes off IP's not MACs so you have to set everyone static IP's. I was doing that today, as they logged on, for everyone. Does this mean that the router will automatically assign me the right IP? or do I need everyones computers to be setup as a static IP aswell?

I clicked the box that ban's connections with the same mac but different IP, so is it possible thats why I cant connect?

Situation as of now: Can connect to TP-Link router, but no internet and cannot for the life of me get back into the gargoyle gui. The reset button does not work no matter what I try.

Sorry about the massive post but this is a bit of a conundrum for me and I really need to solve my bandwidth problems, thanks so much for creating such a powerful platform.

In 1.3.6 there's a problem on AR71XX routers with USB ports (like yours) with one daemon taking up WAY too much CPU time. It's possible that your problem stems from this -- though on my router everything works ok, it's just sluggish. A fix was released today in 1.3.7.

You say you can access the router -- does that mean you can ssh in ok? If so you can scp the 1.3.7 firmware to the /tmp directory on the router, ssh in and then run:

Code: Select all

sysupgrade -n /tmp/gargoyle_1.3.7-ar71xx-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
That should upgrade to the latest version, which (I hope) will solve your problem.

I dont think that was the problem, the cpu load was never that high. I dont use linux unfortunately I dont know how to ssh, can I do it with windows? I can connect to the router but cannot change any settings or do anything.

Any help from anyone is appreciated, im a poor student with no money and it looks like I have bricked this router.

Telnet won't work -- it's disabled by default on Gargoyle. You have to use SSH. You can download PuTTY to access the router via SSH on Windows.

I can access the gargoyle UI again, thanks so much for the help! Now I just need to work out how to set it up and not crash.
