ASUS RT-N16

Post by Qinn »

Hi has anyone had a successful Gargoyle firmware install in for the ASUS RT-N16 which has a Broadcom BCM4716 chip rev 1 pkg 10 chipset? I see there is a firmware called gargoyle_1.6.1-brcm47xx-squashfs.trx

Thnx

I am also interested in installing Gargoyle on the ASUS RTN16.

Apparently the latest (Oct 24, 2014) version of OpenWRT, Barrier Breaker, works on an ASUS RTN16. There is a wiki page here: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-n16

I tried to follow along the instructions on the wiki page but it didn't seem clear to me exactly what one needs to do for installing OpenWRT and then installing Gargoyle.

Can anyone help with installing Gargoyle on the ASUS RTN16? Can I just flash my current ASUS RT N16 with the Gargoyle broadcom image at https://www.gargoyle-router.com/downloa ... uashfs.trx? Does that image use the latest OpenWRT?

I use an ASUS RT N16 as my router and would be happy to try it out. I just couldn't really make sense of the OpenWRT wiki page.

Thanks!

Is there a build that will run on the RT-N16 yet? I see a generic Broadcom build but am afraid to try it. :D

Okay, decided to give it ago, and so far, it seems to work fine. I used gargoyle_1.7.x-brcm47xx-generic-squashfs.trx from ispyisail's Jan 10th build - 1.7.X (Built 20150109-0720 git@da35789). At the moment, I have wifi disabled on the RT-N16 so I can't comment on wifi performance. I'm using an Archer C7 connected by ethernet to handle wifi duties (also using a Jan 10th Gargoyle build but unfortunately, the Archer C7 only has use of the 2.4 GHz radio at the moment).

The model isn't recognized on the status page, but as I mentioned everything appears to working fine.

I decided to attempt to setup a PPTP server on the RT-N16 but noticed that the only plugins listed are languages. Are plugins available on this router?

Other than that, it's been running without issues since yesterday afternoon.

So .... we're still not seeing Gargoyle firmware for the Asus Rt-N16 even while OpenWRT now officially supports this router?
