Firmware upgrade through web interface from stock
TP-Link tl-wr740n h/w v4.26 ->
gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr740n-v4-squashfs-factory.bin

(I didn't mention it in my other post, but I renamed the firmware to gargoyle_1.5.11.bin as I think the longer name was not recognized by the TP-LInk factory firmware)
-
1 x WRT54GL v1.1 Gargoyle 1.5.6
1 x TL-WR740N v4.23 Gargoyle 1.6.2
1 x TL-WR740N v4.26 Gargoyle 1.5.11
1 x TL-WR740N v4.26 Gargoyle 1.8.1

Successfull firmware upgrade through web interface from stock
TP-Link tl-mr3420 v2 ->
gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3420-v2-squashfs-factory.bin
It does not appear in Download page (only v1), but exists if you type this filename.

I successfully flashed two TP-Links WR1043NDs (ver. 1.7 and 1.8), from OpenWRT AA 12.09 (through LuCI's web interface) with Gargoyle 1.5.11 "sysupgrade".
Everything looks fine for now except for the 3g USB Modem not showing up as WAN option (Huawei E3131 / Vendor=12d1 ProdID=151d Rev= 1.02).

Hi!

I successfully installed Gargoyle 1.5.11 firmware to this router:
TP-Link TL-WR842ND v1
This router has 32MB RAM, 8 MB Flash, and 1 USB2.0 port.

This firmware was installed:
gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr842n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

It works nicely! Thanks a lot!

I flashed a TP-Link TL-WR1043N v1.11
gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin
via factory firmware page.

I tried flashing a TL-WR1043N v2.1 but it would not accept the file. Was not concerned if I bricked it since it was going back to vendor anyway.

BTW: I bought the v1.11 from Newegg for $47.99 the other day.

Successfully flashed TP-LINK WDR-4300 v1.3

Post by marcini »

I successfully flashed TP-LINK WDR-4300 v1.3 with image: gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-wdr4300-v1-squashfs-factory.bin. I had to change filename to shorter to upload it to router.
It works very well for a couple of days now without any problems.

Performance differences I`ve noticed on Gargoyle:
- wifi 2.4 GHz speed is almost equal to tp-link firmware
- wifi 5 GHz is much faster than before (60 Mbit/s on tp-link vs. 100 Mbit/s on Gargoyle)
- USB HDD speed, sharing over CIFS: in Gargoyle NTFS filesystem speed is very very slow and unacceptable (max 3 MB/s and 90% CPU usage), ntfs-3g driver is very CPU-consuming. But on ext4 filesystem speed is acceptable: 10-11 MB/s and 30% CPU. It`s almost the same as NTFS speed on factory firmware (tp-link does not support ext2/3/4 filesystems).

Found bugs in Gargoyle GUI in this image:
in /www directory, scripts: firstboot.sh, update.sh, backup.sh. They produce error on the screen: /usr/bin/haserl: unrecognized option `--upload-target=/tmp/'.
I`ve edited the scripts, removed unnecessary option from the beginning and now GUI works ok. There is --upload-dir option instead in the scripts (http://haserl.sourceforge.net/manpage.html).

Untested features:
- WPS, I never use it, so I haven`t checked if it works or not.

Successfully flashed 1.6.0 to a DLINK DIR-615 E1 from dd-wrt using the mtd command and the dir-600 a1 image.

Wireless seems to work stably, is more reliable and feels faster than dd-wrt. Setup, configuration, interface, all smoother than my old setup.

But I'm burying the lead a bit. The image is too large so all changes go to tmpfs instead of jffs (which can't be created, too few erase blocks).

1.5.10 is the most recent version I could get working (1.5.11 is the same size). I believe it requires 5 erase blocks and I get 6 from 1.5.10.
