Thank you BashfulBladder again! I had the same issue again and now I noticed the following message: IEEE 802.11: disconnected due to excessive missing ACKs

I found in the Internet that it is an old issue related to TP-LINK routers, and a possible solution would be change the parameter "disassoc_low_ack" in the file "/var/run/hostapd-phy0.conf" from 1 to 0. Do you know anything about this theme?

Introduction

Tor with Gargoyle provides plug and play anonymous access to the internet. Routers running Gargoyle 1.5.1 and above with a USB port have support Tor. It can be run on a router with 32MB of memory only if SWAP is enabled, but 64MB is recommended.

I followed the instructions and created a swap and the remaining fat32. I only had a 8gb usb drive, hope that is ok.

The TOR function is not in the menu when I enter Gargoyle. Am I supposed to use the tor.sh address? Or am I doing something wrong here... how can I verify that Gargoyle is using the swap? Do I need to login using telnet and make some commands? Need some help here please... :)

NEVER MIND!! GOT IT TO WORK!! GREAT! THANKS!!

Only supported in OpenWrt Barrier Breaker (currently trunk). Until Gargoyle moves to that branch, you won't get support for this router. Doubt they will change to this branch too soon.

Ok, so not a good buy then if you plan on using Gargoyle... which is the best router to get that can support everything? Ie. a router with 64-128 mb ram. I have a tp-link wdr4300 (128mb) and works great. How about Netgear?

I don't, but if you want to try changing the parameter in the file, you can either:

-ssh in & use vi (something I wouldn't do)
-ssh in, 'opkg install nano' and then 'nano /var/run/hostapd-phy0.conf' the file, edit the one line & save in place (I have nano installed - technically I build it into the firmware I flash for myself)
or
'scp root@192.168.1.2:/var/run/hostapd-phy0.conf ~' and edit the file on your computer & then 'scp ~/hostapd-phy0.conf root@192.168.1.2:/var/run/' to put it back.

Why not stick with the WDR4300? You could get a Netgear WNDR3700v2 or WNDR3800, but those are getting harder to find. You don't gain much either (more flash is about it).

I used to like gargoyle a lot, but in this latest build I couldn't reach speeds higher than 4,5-5 Mb/s with a WDR4300 configured as client bridge; with the same router using the last DD-WRT I am able to download (torrents) with 9,2 Mb/s connected to the same AP; might be the new wireless drivers causing this issue?

also tested on a WR941ND (v3) but with same results (same speed) ; this was also in client bridge mode so I cannot report if configured in AP mode this last firmware has the same speed problem, but for me, gonna stick with dd-wrt for now :(

No problem at all here, with a WR1043ND too.
A 1.9 version.

Straight from lastest stock version to gargoyle 1.5.10.
No downgrade with some old german firmware like some people teach. And no problem with wlan. I think the bootloader problem (and the reason for downgrade this) has been solved now.

But i think you should try setting a Scheduled Reboot, every day (at night, when everybody should be sleeping), to check if your router keeps freezing after that.

No probbs with my WR1043ND v1.2 after flashing factory firmware! Some extra work in getting TOR up and running because too small ram in router. I noticed that other functions might apply here also... like vpn, downloding plugins etc.... I did create a swap on a USB so that SHOULD mean I will be able to use all features!? Isnt it possible to download plugins etc to the usb drive and leave the built in ram as is?! Also do I need to get the sysugrade firmware? Maybe need is the wrong word... but is it recommended? Considering the 32mb limit on the router... but if the upgrade took advantage of my externa usb drive, great! :)

Also, sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, what about all the 1000's of plugins available for Openwrt... can I use them with Gargoyle and the WR1043ND router?
