Version 1.5.8

Post by pmerrill »

Just thought I would report that I upgraded from 1.5.7 to 1.5.8 on my 3700v2. I can say after four days, it's running rock solid and the new OpenWRT drivers seems to have done their job. The signal is stronger now and I don't get as many dropouts.

Gargoyle itself is running perfectly fine. A great result.

P.S. - Upgrade did take some time, the reboot from the reflash took maybe 60 seconds, maybe two minutes. It was more than one expected but worked in the end no probs.

Great work guys!

Omg! I need Help!
-Unable to go online
-Show A network cable unplugged
-Router only has greet light (power) and blue light (file) On.
I just installed Gargoyle 1.4.4 which worked fine with my router. Then, I upgraded from 1.4.4 to 1.5.8 without any problem but after my router restarted by itself, I can't surf the net. Powered off and on the router, still no luck. I think I upgraded with the wrong file, so it is bricked.

What can I do now?

-Router: Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH
-upgraded this file: gargoyle_1.5.8-ar71xx-generic-alfa-ap96-kernel.bin

^Yeah, the one you should have used has the model of the router in the name. You'll have to recover by flashing it via TFTP: http://g300nh.blogspot.com/2010/06/firm ... overy.html

Now, when I did this before, I couldn't get it to work in Windows for some reason so I had to use Linux. If you're unfamiliar with Linux, use an Ubuntu live CD. Also, be sure to leave it alone for several minutes after you do the flash; it takes a while to reset itself.

The file you want for TFTP is the one with TFTP in the name, not the factory or sysupgrade version: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download ... s-tftp.bin

You might be able to try the OpenWRT failsafe mode to get into the
router and reset it to defaults as well.

TFTP recovery is usually 99% UNSUCCESSFUL with Windows 7/Vista

You need to use a Windows XP machine or the Linux recovery methods

Serial recovery is another option that never fails but more work involved.

Not enough flash space for those options

If you want to have those features, you will have to compile your own
OpenWRT builds - adding all the Gargoyle features does not leave
enough space for the firmware builds.

Gargoyle + extra features usually require a router to have 8MB+ flash

yeti_z wrote:Hi,

Is the new FTP functionality in 1.5.8 supposed to work also from internet? So far I was able to only run it in LAN. Inside local network it works great and is looking simply beautiful, but from outside LAN port 21 is closed.

As a workaround I tried (sth weird):
1. port 21 forwarding to router ip - no luck.
2. Seting DMZ to router ip - no luck.

FTP is still visible only on internal network. Did I miss some configuration step? Or is this expected behaviour right now?

Kind Regards,
Yeti_z
have you found a solution to this issue? i haven't had any luck from the outside either. i can access the router, but not the ftp server. everytime i try i kind of get booted off...

"Restore default configuration now"

Can somebody else check "Restore default configuration now". I tried and it did nothing?

update on second test

It appears that some things may have reset ?

I think it should reset everything including root password
