Firewall restrictions not functioning

Post by jwhipp »

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with the Restrictions not functioning properly? I currently have an Access Restriction set to filter my children's wireless devices (by IP range). All network access with a few web URL exceptions. I noticed the other day that my son was browsing freely, with not restrictions. This is a rule that I've always had in place, and it's functioned just fine. I've made no recent modifications to it, and I've never had a problem in the past. I haven't even logged in to the router for a few months. When I double checked the rule, it appeared to be fine. Only after closing and applying settings did it start filtering his device again. I didn't make any modifications to it though. Anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

I'm running version 1.5.6 on a Linksys WRT54GL, and I am experiencing the same problem, where the access restrictions don't work at all. Any suggestions?

I was previously on the experimental version, and experienced too many issues to stay. Had to revert the stable 1.4.7 version. I don't see anything in the documentation that indicates a fix to this particular type of issue when upgrading to level 1.5.8, so I'm not ready to do so. I could be mistaken, however. Did level 1.5.X target fixes to this problem?

DavidElm> I used to have the Linksys WRT54GL and found that it didn't fair well with version 1.5.X for a number of reasons that I won't get into, but the greatest contributing factor was the wireless dropping out all of the time. See below:

This was a a response from "DoesItMatter" to me:

"Try Gargoyle 1.3.9 for your WRT54GL

That was the last version that used old style Broadcom drivers.

1.3.10 and later uses a new driver set which does seem to have
more wireless instability, but it is constantly being worked on.

The wireless dropouts are NOT a Gargoyle issue, its an OpenWRT issue"

Once I followed his suggestion and downgraded to 1.3.9, everything was working fine. Then, some time later, I wanted a new feature set available only on a new version, so I then upgraded to 1.4.7, experienced different issues again. Long story short, I'm now on the TP-Link WR1043ND due to what I felt were memory issues with the Linksys. I'm pretty happy with things at this point, except for the restrictions dropping out a few time, which is obviously why I started this thread. I suggest that if you continue to upgrade to the more recent versions, you upgrade your device as well.
