TL-WR941ND v6 fail

Post by alx0101 »

Well that didn't go well.... WIll update this if I resolve but meanwhile please provide any hints/info that would assist on this hardware.

941ND v6 (the 450 Mbps version and not the Chinese version referred to on WRT https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr941nd), flashed with ver 1.81 stable factory.

941 was factory reset before commencing Gargoyle flash.

Accepted the install (had to shorten the filename) but on reboot was dead.

Currently researching recovery options (it's diff hardware than v1-5).

Lights display as follows:-

On power on, all lights on (less than 1 second) then "web" icon turns amber momentarily (2nd from right), then all off except power light.

Anything plugged in to Lan or wan does not activate the lan/wan port light.

no activity on lan port seen on computer but does link at 100Mbps.

RESET button..if I power on and then, within a few seconds, hold reset for about 3 seconds, the LOCK light comes on (far right light..next to WEB icon).

hoping this is TFTP recovery status....

Mistake was presuming that if the GARGOYLE firmware is listed for that specific version then it is supported.

Shouldn't the ver6 firmware be removed???

It supports the Chinese version.

We always recommend checking the wiki first or asking on the forums.

Caveat emptor regardless I spose.

Your router is fixable though don't worry.
I hope you have a more positive gargoyle experience in the future.

Recovered to factory.

Can do without serial port.

setup TFTP
set PC to 192.168.0.66 /255.255.255.0

get correct recovery file from http://www.friedzombie.com/tplink-stripped-firmware/

ensure for v6 !!

rename recovery file to: wr941ndv6_tp_recovery.bin

Connect PC to WAN port (eth0) of router.

Power on router then immediately hold RESET button for about 3 seconds. Two lights now on:- Power and the "LOCK" light at other end.

Router should automatically retrieve the recovery file, reflash and reboot.

Good to go in about 2 minutes ...if you have more than just one light showing then it's OK.

nb. I could not get router to recognise my PC lan port at all (HP 2570p) so swapped to spare PC.

Could see eth0/eth1 down in console messages and no traffic was flowing.

Hi, sorry I couldn't provide any help for you as am not using Win10. There should be some youtube guides for setting up TFTP and manually setting your IP address.

Rest assured, your router is recoverable easily.
