Usually that error is because the firmware has the "wrong name". E.g. It's expecting tp_firmware_1.0 and you're giving it Gargoyle_1.9.x_blahblah.

I don't know exactly what naming convention it expects however.

Yes, i tried "wr1043ndv3_us_3_16_9_up_boot(151021).bin" and another name "wr1043v3_tp_recovery.bin" that someone else suggested with the same result.

I just bought a TL-WR1043ND v3 from Amazon and I can confirm the 18005 error when trying to flash the oviano firmware even after renaming it to wr1043ndv3_us_3_16_9_up_boot(151021). ("Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name"). Just wondering when official Gargoyle firmware for TL-WR1043ND v3 might become available? Looking forward to flashing my new router. Thanks!

have you tried.

"wr1043ndv3_en_3_16_9_up_boot(150514).bin"?
or
"wr1043ndv3_en_3_16_9_up_boot(150313).bin"?

As far as official gargoyle support, the v3 is not supported by Chaos Calmer, only the Trunk branch at the moment. If it was back ported to CC we could support it.
If it is not backported, you would have to wait for DD to be released, and then a period of time for Gargoyle to be patched to it.
There is not timeframe on either of those events sorry.

Thank you, Lantis, for your suggestions. However, I just tried each alternate name you recommended, but no love for either. Before returning the TL-WR1043ND V3, are there any other suggestions I might try not necessarily requiring a high-wire act of technical prowess to perform? Thanks!

Can you try something like what that thread describes?

very complicated, tp-link is loosing their advantage of flashing third party firmwares by this thing.

It's related to a potential FCC ruling. Hasn't come through yet but apparently tp link have started following it.

Hi All,

Since, there is an official support of DD-WRT for TL-WR1043ND V3, can we expect new Gargoyle version for this router?
