Pre installed router not connecting

Post by timbo »

I've just installed a prebuilt Gargoyle TL WR1043BD and replaced a working Dlink 615 router.

I can get to the router from the web interface/Chrome and have changed the password but otherwise left it as per the Configuration Guide.

But am unable to get to the internet.

Is there a simple set of checks that I can run to get some idea of what is happening?

No screenshots but an update.

I've had to leave this as literally everything else has had to be updated (first). I have just now returned to the original machine to get this sorted before putting it into the new environment.

I now cannot get to 192.168.0.1 at all.

With everything plugged in I have lights for

PWR
SYS
4 and 2 (being this PC and a NAS)
WAN
USB (stuck one in to see if it would register)

All the lights are permanently hard on except for WAN which blinks occasionally.

Attempting to access the NAS or the internet or the router gets a "This web page not available" from Chrome and the equivalent from Opera/Mozilla

I have retried rebooting the router, restarting the browser(s).

So where should I go from here? Are there any diagnostics that an be run?

Can you ping the router?

Thanks.

I can ping the modem (192.168.0.1) but the message returned is

Reply from 192.168..1.1: Destination net unreachable
Reply from 192.168..1.1: Destination net unreachable
Reply from 192.168..1.1: Destination net unreachable

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)

1. What is 192.168.1.1
2. Can I just push the reset on the back of the modem and start again
3. How stupid am I about to look

Hi yes you can press reset at the back router. 192.168.1.1 is the IP for the router.

Are you sure router is on 192.168.0.1? Is automatic IP configuration (DHCP) enabled at you computer. Do you get IP from router? Open command prompt and execute ipconfig command. Look at default gateway option and see if IP of it is 192.168.0.1 and what IP you get.

Apologies for the delay.

I had removed the modem for the last couple of months and plugged it back in yesterday to collect/check the ipconfig info and noticed that the modem was working. At this stage it looks like a mechanical/cable issue or something to do with the start sequence of various devices since when I swap the various Ethernet cables around the modem will lose or hold internet connection.

Not entirely sure what the issue is but right now it seems to be working.
