TL-WR941ND doesn't respond/maybe bricked

Post by crazym0ng0 »

Hey!
I flashed my TP-Link WR941ND.
First off, it worked great. I tried to configure it as a repeater. While trying, i resetted it, after the reset(via reset button) i can't ping it anymore(cant get into grafic interface either). Tried to reset another time, didn't help. I installed "gargoyle_1.4.7-ar71xx-tl-wr941nd-v3-squashfs-factory.bin" and I am using Win Vista/7/8. I already tried this http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe guide, but there was no message from my router to the PC(the LED is flashing fast, so im shure it is in failsafe). I am sorry for my poor englisch. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Marian

If your router is already in failsafe mode (not likely) you can telnet to 192.168.1.1 to access the command prompt and type 'firstboot'.

More likely is that it does send out the failsafe message but you are not observing it. It takes some practive with wireshark and careful reading of the instructions. Then you will see the beacon and be able to press reset at the proper time, entering failsafe mode.

Thank you for your answer!
I am like 99% sure that i am in failsafe mode because the LED is blinking faster then in normal mode, and i cant do it everytime, but sometimes it works. I installed wireshark and viewed the traffic, but there is never the ip (192.168.1.1) of the router but the one of my pc (192.168.1.4). I tried again to telnet via putty&tried to ping, but i dont get response :? Hopefully i didn't miss something important. If u have qustions feel free to ask, i can post screenshots/logs/everythign you need to have ;)

Thanks in advance,

Marian

The same case
WR941ND v3.6
Argentina.
Gargoyle 1.5.9.
Apparently the router enters in failsafe mode by pressing reset or qss when SYS LED lights (LED is blinking faster then in normal mode).
But I do telnet 192.168.1.1 and unresponsive
I Made a serial console, but I can not enter in router.
Install wireshark and I have no traffic to 192.168.1.1
For the serial console I followed this circuit:
http://wifiar.sytes.net/drupal6/?q=node/10
http://wifiar.sytes.net/drupal6/?q=node/40
Any suggestions?
Best regard
Jorge

What does this mean? Your computer and router cannot both have the same IP address.

Ping will not work if your IP addresses are not correct.

Assuming you have correct IP addresses and you still cannot ping then it looks like the JTAG method is all that remains to be tried. I have no experience with that myself with that router but there is some stuff written about it over at openwrt.org.

Woops, typo. That looked very dumb, but what i wanted to type that i am using 192.168.1.4 for my pc. Any comments on how to get rid of my router again are very appreciated! I'll edit the other post too,

I found the solution:
You have to use the serial console

http://wifiar.sytes.net/drupal6/?q=node/10

http://electonicalibre.blogspot.com.ar/ ... 2-ttl.html

It is very important to feed the circuit with 5v but not with 3.3 v does not work.
Use Putty series,
with
speedSpeed (Speed baud) 115 200
Data bits8
Stop bits1
ParitynoneFlow Control: none

I use the commands:"firstboot" command, and then "reboot
After that I can re-enter the gargoyle
