WR1043ND does not respond anymore

Post by enigma2k »

I have used the newest Gargoyle version on my WR1043ND and after I changed some of the setting under Bridge/Repeater I suddenly couldn't connect anymore to 192.168.1.1.

So I have followed the "Failsafe recover mode" from here: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... e_recovery

I have installed Wireshark on my Mac and pressed reset on the router as soon as I've seen packets coming in. The guide says that after doing so the Power LED should start blinking quickly but for me it is the SYS LED that is blinking quickly.

After this I have tried to telnet 192.168.1.1 in the Mac Terminal it is telling me this "telnet: connect to address 192.168.1.1: No route to host"
I have tried to ping 192.168.1.1 as well but it didn't work as well.

Is there any other solution or did I brick it?

I have the same problem, the device can not be seen even on the serial console.

This is how you get to failsafe with the 1043ND:

Set your computer's IP to 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0

Power up your router. When the 'SYS' light starts to blink, press and hold the QSS button on the right side of the front panel until the blinking of 'SYS' LED gets faster.

Telnet into 192.168.1.1 where you will get immediate access to root shell/prompt. Authentication won't be required.

From telnet, run the command "firstboot"

This will reset the router to the firmware defaults. More info can be found here:

Sorry to threadjack but this is the exact issue I am having with my WR1043ND.
I have been using it for around 6 months fine.
LINE -> Dlink G604T -> WR1043ND -> PC's and wireless devices.

Woke up this morning to no internet. Powered everything off. Booted Dlink, waited a couple of mins, booted TP-Link, waited a couple mins, booted PC. Still no connection. Tried logging into the router via 192.168.1.1 and couldn't connect. Unplugged my ethernet cable and cable tested it, it was fine and working. Plugged my PC into the Dlink and got internet fine.
PC seems fine
Dlink is Fine.
Cables are all good.

I tried what was listed above but not sure if I'm doing it right (pretty noobie with networking but I understand the basics).
Installed telnet (win7), powered up the TP-Link, held the QSS when the sys light flashed until it flashed faster, set computer IP to 192.168.1.1 and subnet to 255.255.255.0, opened CMD and ran telnet, typed in 192.168.1.1 and couldn't connect.
Is there a command to connect or did I do that right?

Please help me.
What should I try next?

After 2 days of it being dead it magically fixed itself. Thought I would give it one more shot before I buy a new one so I turned it on, waited for it to boot and it automatically gave me internet and worked as if nothing had happened.
