Gargoyle on TL-WR740n?

Has anyone had any luck flashing the TPLink wr740n_v4 with Gargoyle firmware? I have tried both Gargoyle v1.4.7 and v1.5.4 for the wr740n & neither version will flash directly from the factory firmware thru the embedded upgrade tool. I also attempted to use TFTP but I've never figured out how to use TFTP properly without a step by step procedure. Wish someone would publish a detailed flash procedure for those of us with limited experience. Any help with this one will be appreciated.

Can someone at least tell me if what I'm asking is doable? If this device is not and won't be supported anytime soon, I need to know that so I can look for an alternative.

Did you use the default embedded firmware upgrade tool of the stock firmware? Also which version of Gargoyle did you upgrade with?
