I have been using it for 1 Month now on my Fon 2201+ ( 8M / 16M )

Running the lastest bleeding edge build.

Runs more stable than DD-WRT did on the Fonera routers.

I do still use DD-WRT on my Broadcom based routers though.

Hi, I am running Gargoyle on a WRT54GL which has been upgraded to use a 32MB RAM chip. The router is typically only using 56% of the available RAM... :D

See a description on how to do this over here http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... bfab7ebd73

Note that I only changed the RAM chip - not the Flash chip.

Disclaimer: This mod could result in damage to the RAM chip or circuit board if not done properly. Do not attempt this unless you have the right de-soldering equipment and experience.

I think it is not, because most markets are selling it (sometimes, it may be unavailable at Amazon.com, but after few days it became available again).

Hardware that come with 32 mb:
WRTSL54GS (8 MB / 32 MB), and I think it is the best for any firmware, but it is more expensive.

NL2009, what about upgrading the flash, do you have any info about that?

Hi Gargoyle87

I did not change the flash chip since my understanding is that the Gargoyle firmware fits comfortably into the existing flash - it's the SDRAM space that is too small.

The link above also describes how to replace the Flash chip. The soldering is no more difficult than the SDRAM, but you then need to use a JTAG cable to program the new (blank) Flash chip.

Thanks NL2009 for your info, and yes you are right there is no need for more flash memory in the mean time because, as you said, Gargoyle fits comfortably into the existing flash (I do not know if it will stay like this, because as more features are added, more memory will be consumed).

I wonder why hardware manufactures, such as Linksys (and all others), produce fantastic routers such as the wrt54g series with a very low flash memory and ram. Adding a flash memory (1 GB) and a ram chip (64 or 128 MB) will cost less than 15 $ (maybe much less than that if done by a major company...).
