TL-WR1043ND v1 on 1.10.0 Can't Upgrade

Post by riffraff »

I am running per the subject. I wish to upgrade to 1.12 to be on the latest release.

I've tried upgrading directly to 1.12 with gargoyle_1.12.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin and the updating firmware icon keeps spinning. If I open another tab to the router's IP it lets me log in and still says I am running 1.10.

I've tried the same with 1.11 upgrade with the same result. I am using chrome as my browser. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
RR

This is a new platform from OpenWrt Chaos Calmer to LEDE, so you have to do a complete reflash.

:!: Do not keep the settings or use a backup, as the two platforms are different!

Therefore, use this file: https://www.gargoyle-router.com/downloa ... actory.bin

Thanks for the tip. Now, unfortunately, somewhere between my original post and yesterday (when I read the post from RomanHK) I semi-bricked the router and it wouldn't boot.

I am trying to un-brick via usb/serial/ttl cable and while I can get into the router interface via putty, I have no luck uploading the firmware. It keeps timing out with the "T T T T T" in putty.

I don't think I've configured my tftpd correctly, other than to have the right folder and server address when I start, but nothing ever shows up in the tftp server window (or the logs). Is there somewhere that I should be looking to make sure I have the right settings in tftpd so it doesn't keep timing out.

Thanks,
RR

Use TFTP32 as the tftp server, turn off the firewall.

Use the printenv command to find out what IP address the tftp server (serverip) should have.

I turned off the firewall.
The printenv is as follows:

Code: Select all

ar7100> printenv
bootargs=console=ttyS0,115200 root=31:02 rootfstype=jffs2 init=/sbin/init mtdparts=ar9100-nor0:128k(u-boot),1024k(kernel),4096k(rootfs),64k(art)
bootcmd=bootm 0xbf020000
bootdelay=1
baudrate=115200
ethaddr=00:1D:0F:11:22:33
ipaddr=192.168.0.2
serverip=192.168.0.5
stdin=serial
stdout=serial
stderr=serial
ethact=eth0

Environment size: 317/131068 bytes
Attached is an image of my tftp32, putty results and folder with code.bin.

You must run the screenshot through another company (eg Imbur). I use Grenshot.

You have the tftp server correctly.

Now you need to enter the static IP address 192.168.0.5 on your computer, connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN1 port and it should work.

That's how it should work for you - then the problem must be somewhere in the cable.

EDIT: The code.bin file must be at the root of TFTPD32

All that is done, and I've tried 2 different ethernet cables that worked on other computers for regular networking. I'll see if I can find a 3rd for '3rd times a charm' luck.

I don't remember exactly anymore, but the correct indicator is that the LAN1 LED will flash.

I also don't know if the ping 192.168.0.2 command will fake from the computer - you can try it, I last worked on tftp a year ago, so I don't remember exactly.

Otherwise HAPPY NEW YEAR!
