WNDR3700 v2 and USB drive

Post by lollapalooza »

I'm using WNDR3700 v2 with latest stable Gargoyle installed.

Some time ago I used it also like a NAS, by attaching an USB drive and sharing a folder.

At a certain point, about at the same time when I upgraded from 1.10 to .12, it stopped working.

I mean... when I plug the USB drive, I see that the drive is recognized, but it does not work.

And by listening carefully, I see that the disk does not spin up.

What's wrong?

Option 1)
An issue with the drive (but I can tell that the drive does work correctly connected to a laptop).

Option 2)
An issue with the USB port of the router

Option 3)
An issue with Gargoyle 1.12

 This could be a problem with a lack of USB power (5V). I know it's difficult, but try a USB hub with an external power supply (adapter). Sometimes a shorter USB cable from the disk to about 30cm long will help.

What sound weird to me is that the drive used to work correctly in the past.

This was just an idea, but it is possible that there was an incompatibility by upgrading to a new version (linux kernel module or other packages). It is possible that the new kernel uses different USB commands and therefore the plates will not spin.

I had a similar problem here: viewtopic.php?p=53717#p53717 but with a printer.

If it can be useful, I can paste here the output of dmesg command.
