How to setup remote access?

Post by altibodo »

Hi all,

I bought a gargoyle router and would like to setup remote access to the router.

My purpose: I want to be able to trouble shoot/monitor/reset the router when I’m abroad if ever there’s any problems (I rent my house on Airbnb).

I’m looking for simple step by step instructions to do this, can you help?

Thanks a lot!

What method would you like to use so someone can assist you?
1. Remote web access (easy, not very secure)
2. OpenVPN (medium difficulty, much more secure)

If you have a dynamic IP you also need to setup DDNS.

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.

In addition, it must have a public IP (Gargoyle IPv4 - which may be a problem) to be visible from the outside (not behind ISP NAT).
Turris Omnia with OpenWrt 21.02 - Tested
Linksys WRT3200ACM with Gargoyle 1.13.x
TL-WR1043ND v2 with Gargoyle 1.10.0

Thank you both for the replies! (And sorry for the late response;)

Questions:

I use satellite internet (xplornet, awful in many ways. Waiting on Starlink;) and don’t know if my IP is dynamic.

Would it be possible to have a breakdown of what needs to be done for either scenario?

1. If I go remote web access (easy but less secure) or,

2. If I go open vpn (harder but very secure).

Also, and off topic: Seems the Gargoyle router isn’t for sale anymore… too bad!

Would you know where I can find a manual for the one I bought? Or a special section of the forum reserved for that specific router?

Thanks again!
