DIR-859 A2, how to go about flashing this?

Post by CaptainPlanet »

The official support for this router has been announced to end in a month, and I am interested in trying Gargoyle.

Does gargoyle include the hardware acceleration drivers so it runs smoothly like stock?

How do I go about flashing this particular router so I don't brick it? Any one successfully flashed this particular router?

The DIR-859 A2 has no OpenWrt support ( https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/d-link/start ), so Gargoyle is not supported.
Turris Omnia with OpenWrt 21.02 - Tested
Linksys WRT3200ACM with Gargoyle 1.13.x
TL-WR1043ND v2 with Gargoyle 1.10.0

Apparently the openwrt snapshot does have support for DIR 859

Ah nevermind, A2 isn't said to be supported, A1 is.

The controller chips appear to be the same for both models. Not sure if relevant, but people who flashed ddwrt confirmed their A1 firmware worked on A2.

Yes there are some reports that the A1 firmware works on A2.
We obviously can't make any guarantees of that fact, and if you choose to try that, that's your choice.

It also appears that the device (any variant) is only supported since at least OpenWrt 19.07.
Development is currently underway for Gargoyle to be based on this version, but it isn't there yet.
So if you wanted to try Gargoyle, you would need to custom compile it yourself anyway.
The development branch is here: https://github.com/ericpaulbishop/gargo ... enwrt_1907

On the back of my router, it says the hardware version is A2, but the router's web interface lists the device as A1. So the official A1 firmware is compatible with A2. Maybe the custom firmware can use this too.

I have DIR-859 A3 running openwrt 19.07.4, it works relatively well, dd-wrt also works, but then, as the VLAN doesn't work, so I'm using OpenWRT, won't the gargoyle support this model? how can i compile for my router?
