TL-WR841N v14

Post by Gamal »

Hi
I've already succeeded to flash my own gigabit router and it works fine.
However, I needed a budget router (just 100mbit) for my brother

I searched Gargoyle list and found TL-WR841N fits for purpose.
when I bought it I found it v14 and thought it is not a problem since it is higher than the listed v8, 9, 10 & 11

unfortunately, whenever I tried to flash it I received Error code : 4530
"The uploaded file was not accepted by the device".

I've tried a lot with other firmware: dd-WRT, openWRT as an intermediate step, I couldn't
I've even tried to downgrade the TP Link firmware itself, I received same error

Can anyone help me:
for this issue in particular
and
for understanding the versions in general .. is it very specific or covers multiple hardware of same model of the router

There won't be support. It is 4MB flash.

I'm doubtful it will even receive OpenWrt support.
Moving forward, the only WR841N model with support will be the v13, which has enough flash memory and RAM.

Thanks gents for your swift responses.

Looks like I'm trapped with a piece of electronic that I'll use it as just a repeater !!

I know that I've to dig more and more before buying, but never expect that upgrade in a product comes with a downgrade for its hard ware. I'm not happy with this approach from TP-Link

And unfortunately in our country we don't have the luxury of selecting a product down to its version. Or even to return it unless having manufacturing defects.

Anyway, being experts, please let me know if there is a solution someday. Meanwhile, I'll update you if I get to TP-Link corporate cooperation to exchange it.
