Inexpensive, available routers for Gargoyle

Hello all.
I'm trying to limit the data consumption of my kids (nothing to do with my internet plan but rather with education), and some googling finally led me here, as Gargoyle seems to be the only option to setup user quotas (I'm not interested in infantilizing daily time limits as proposed by several router companies).
I have a wifi modem-router, my only need for another wifi router is thus to implement these user quotas, so I'm after a rather cheap, <$100 solution. Of course, at the same time, the faster the better.
Although it seems to need some tweaking, Archer C7 seems a possible option, but the only version I can buy now is apparently v5, so I have no idea how different from v2 this may be.
The Linksys WRTAC1200 is both slower than the TP-Link and over my budget.
Any other practical options for an inexpensive, commercially available router?
Thanks for your suggestions.
Pierre
