Looking at
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd it seems there isn't even a properly working OpenWRT yet. So no, you can't install Gargoyle. The V4 has got a different SOC, so it won't do installing software for V3 or below.

I just received a router from Amazon, but is an TL-WR1043ND(EU) v4.0...
Do you think that a compatible Gargoyle version will be coming soon... or will it be better to return it, and buy another model?
In that case, which one would you recommend?

Since 05. Feb 2017 the router is supported in the current snapshot. Is anyone planning to compile Gargoyle for that version?

That is Designated Driver/LEDE support.
It is not currently available for Gargoyle

Hello,
is there already way how to install Gargoyle for my TL-wr1043nd v4?
I am having some issues with router - random lags etc.. :/ (low ping, high FPS but laggs ingame - happens since i got this new router)

I see that there are 4 firm versions on that router, but only the v1 and v2 are supported by Gargoyle...
