Gargoyle with Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite

Post by klaus-peter »

Hello to the Forums. May i ask, if it is possible to compile the Gargoyle Firmware for the Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite? Or is it maybe planned for the future? The UBNT Edgemax Series own very powerful Hardware and OpenWRT is already supported (Cavium Octeon compatibility). I already use DD-WRT on the ER Lite but i would like to give Gargoyle a try.

un-likley

only 4 meg of flash

Ubiquiti Edgerouter is more likely but the specs are not that great either

Thanks for your answer. The specs from the Octeon SoC´s are really good (Edgerouter Lite uses Octeon CN5020 Mips64) http://www.cavium.com/pdfFiles/CN50XX_PB_Rev1.pdf. The 4 MB flash EEPROM is used for the bootloader, the operation system comes from the internal removable usb drive. The SoC´s support hardware acceleration for TCP and QoS, also for encryption. See: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/ubiquiti/edgerouter.lite. Those Routers are actually more powerful then most Broadcom or Atheros based home routers. You should maybe take a look also at the Edgerouter Pro, the "big brother" http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/l ... o-reviewed. The performance is really nice. I just think that OpenWRT has some advantages against DD-WRT, thats why i was looking for support in here.

Openwrt won't support the hardware acceleration so there's no advantage there.
I attempted to build an image to load onto the internal memory stick a few months ago but never heard back from the user

Try it at your own risk.

Hello Lantis, here´s the first feedback. Router is booting correctly and i can access the web interface, 1.9.X (Built 20160418-1607 git@786d90e). It works good, but i´ve had to configure alot via cli. Those routers dont own wireless but wireless configuration is avaible, maybe these need a cosmetic update. Upgrading to another OpenWRT Firmware does not work, also factory reset does not work. Keep up the good work!

Anything without wifi won't work very well. The UI isn't designed for it. It also doesn't handle devices with 3 wireless interfaces.
