OpenVPN small replacement

Post by lpm11 »

Hi,

There is something called n2n.

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/configuring-l ... g-n2n.html.

We have a working OpenVPN - but it requires easy-rsa, which requires OpenSSL tool and libs; all takes over 1 MB after compression.
I found something much smaller and simpler - n2n.

It was developed many years ago, but some forks exists.
There is very old version 3789 - and the only one fully compatible with Debian/Ubuntu (I mean that packages are in the repository)
There is also v2, newer (you can compile it yourself), and some forks.

It requires tun driver (as OpenVPN); takes about 34kB space.
Communication is secured with (ascii) key and twofish algorithm.

The main drawbacks are: less popularity (than OpenVPN), uglier GUI in Windows tool (project abadoned), diffrent (I think uncompatible) versions (v1 & v2).

What do you think about it? If people are interested, I could prepare plugin for Gargoyle.
