Building for a specific model (DIR-615 rev.C1)

Post by sup2k »

Hello!

I'm new to gargoyle but enjoying it on my D-Link DIR-615 C2. I used the 1.6.2 C1 image and used a hex editor to be able to install it on the C2 (per OpenWrt's instructions).

But the DIR-615 C1 images are missing after 1.6.2, though they still appear in the profile_images of a71xx.

Does this mean I can build 1.8.0 myself for the C1?
If so, how? I've read the guide but i'm reluctant to run 'make FULL_BUILD=true ar71xx.default' and build the images for the 86 models listed there.

Thanks a bunch!

They may not be showing up because the images generated would no longer fit into the flash space.

You can certainly do the build though. Building images you aren't interested in simply adds time to the build.
You could edit the build config to suit only your image if you were so inclined.
Also make sure the image still appears in the "profile_images" file

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.

Not so sure how I can accomplish that.
I'm a coder but i'm not very proficient with shell scripts, so a few pointers on what and where to edit would be very helpful.

The DIR-6xx series don't have full 4MB of flash.

There is some reserved space for the router.

You can only make images about 3.5MB in size.

With all the addons from Gargoyle (on top of the OpenWRT base)
the firmware images are too large for 4MB flash routers.

Your best option is to use pure OpenWRT and build your own
versions off of Trunk -- all you need to do is make sure LuCI is enabled

The base trunk builds run around 3MB now, so you still have about
512KB of space to play with to add extra features.

Your choices now:

1) stick with Gargoyle 1.6.2 and don't upgrade anymore
2) compile your own trunk versions of OpenWRT
3) buy a new router

2x Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH V1 A0D0 = Gargoyle 1.9.x / LEDE 17.01.x
2x Engenius - ESR900 Stock 1.4.0 / OpenWRT Trunk 49400
