Re: Help with testing the AP+Client Bug

Post by DoesItMatter »

I loaded up Build 15409 - last build listed on the 'shotgun' trials

Uptime 15+ hours - seems to be working fine on my Fonera 2201+

Any other set of builds that we can try?

That's odd... 15409 should be identical to 15464, which you reported did not work (though it did work for me), though we all agreed 15465 failed. There are no changes between 15409 and 15464, in madwifi, hostapd or wpa_supplicant.

I rebuilt both 15464 and 15465, in case somehow there was some weird problem last time. It would be helpful if you could test these revisions (with the new builds, listed below). After uploading I verified the md5 sums just to be sure of their integrity, so these should be ok.

While most have my time lately has been spent working on improvements to the bandwidth monitor I spent some time going through the actual changes in the madwifi package over this series of revisions. The most suspicious one is actually the first revision on the list, r13761. The modifications made in this revision are expanded upon in 15465, so this may explain why it suddenly gets so much worse at 15465 - it may be there's a minor error in 13761 and 15465 makes it a lot worse.

Ispyisail: since you're reporting the failure before rebooting, can you 1) check if this error is present at 13761 and then 2) check if it happens in 13708? If 13708 works and you see the reboot failure at 13761 we can confirm where the first error like what we're worried about, and this would make a lot of sense based on the nature of the patch.

15464:

gargoyle_1.0.2_m15464-atheros-vmlinux.lzma

15465:

OK.

I reloaded the 15464 from the post above.

This time, I have 4+ hours uptime.

Did NOT need to reboot in order to get it to work, flashed 15464,
and then when interface came up, was able to scan and setup the
network, no reboot needed in order to keep it up and running.

Not sure why I had in issue before with prior 15464, but this one
seems to be working fine currently.

I'll leave it running overnight and verify if still working in the AM.

13761 work perfect, no reboot required

OK. Did more testing with build 15464 - that one is working, has an
uptime of 12+ hours.

Did an fis init -f again and wiped and re-installed build 15465

That version crashed and failed in less than 5 minutes.

There is something very wrong, and there is a driver issue somewhere.

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

You can get a free wi-fi monitor and inspector there.

I've been checking each build, and all the builds EXCEPT build 15465
report the Fonera as a FON device.

When I load build 15465 - the Fon device is listed as
Allied Telesyn Internaion

I suspect someone tried to put in a different driver or maybe
replaced it with the wrong driver?

15464 = Working and 15465 = NOT working

Here are some screenshots below.
