That was it. First you need to create the extroot and then configure the connections.
I just went back to the initial settings and reversed the steps:
  1. Connected the pendrive, unmount, formatted and marked to be used as extroot

    and then, configured the WAN (PPPoE), LAN and WLAN connections.

I’ll still give this a once over. I think the intent was that setting up the extroot copied all config with it.
So doesn’t sound 100% right, but as long as you are sorted I won’t rush into it.

Yeah, I thought that by enabling the extroot all settings would be copied, regardless of when it was done.
