Upgrade

Post by JV78 »

I have an Archer C7 v2 router with Gargoyle 1.91. Is it safe to upgrade to 1.10 while preserving the settings?

WARNING 2: Do not attempt to preserve settings when upgrading from:
versions < 1.9.0 to 1.9.0+,
versions ≤ 1.6.2 to 1.7.0,
or versions ≤ 1.5.6 to 1.5.7+
Official word, but I think it is still risky

Preserving settings on firmware upgrade is not advised. It may brick your router or possibly lead to unexpected behaviors. It could work normally though, as reported by this user (also with a C7 v2), but keep in mind that's not always the case.

Also, note that he created and then restored a backup, did not tick "Preserve Settings" option, and came from a newer build (1.9.2).
TP-Link Archer C7 v2 - Gargoyle 1.12.X
TP-Link WR842ND v2 - Gargoyle 1.10.X
TP-Link RE450 AC v2 - Stock FW 1.0.4
TP-Link WA850RE v1.2 - LEDE 17.01.1

Okay, thanks. I did an upgrade without preserving settings and without uploading a backup after the upgrade.
I manually configured the router and so far everything's working!
