No login possible WR841N v11.1

Post by FSANDE369 »

Hello people,

So I found this site and installed succesfully version 1.8 to another WR841ND router.
it is a lower version and had no problems. I used the lan port on it as I downloaded the file prior through another connection (modem at 192.168.2.254)

However this one is giving me a headache, it took a while to find the correct version for upload to the router.
The upload went ok and the device rebooted. After which I cannot get acces to it.

After several reboots of a windows 10 computer and this router no such luck. It seems to be working as a openwrt network comes available but as I cannot enter the gui I cannot configure it .

The problem could be my modem is an Arcadian experia v8 the network is 192.168.2.xxx and the modem is at 192.168.2.254.

if I connect the router, this modem is the only thing with a dns server active, and it gives the router an adress, but won't let me in.

if I connect just the router and no modem, no dns is present as it was switched off prior to the update.

Please advice how to get acces to the WR841N v11.1 ?

Run an Ethernet cable from your PC NIC to the gargoyle LAN port.

From your browser type in 192.168.1.1

If that fails try

On you PC fix your IP address to say
192.168.1.10 / 255.255.255.0

If that fails try a "failsafe reset"

Thank you for the fast answer,

I have determined by using a cable between nic from the pc and the wan port that the router ip is in fact 192.168.1.1

after which I tried option 1 and 2 without succes.
google responds the connection is refused sometimes

going for option 3 the failsafe reset, i do not really know how so i googled it.

discovered I neeed to activate telnet first on windows 10 pc.
after which I still cannot get into the router even though the light is flashing fast to indicate i am in the failsafe mode.

problem could be the router displays no message whatsoever.
so how do i boot into the router ?
i cannot connect using open on 192.168.1.1 port 22 thru 24.

i am at a total loss here.

Hi again,
so I installed putty and set the pc ip to 192.168.1.2
and the router to failsafe mode

the configured putty as I found acces with following
set open to 192.168.1.1 and user to 'root' applied no password

after which I got acces to the router;

mount_root (as suggested) gave me an error;
'/dev/mtdblock3 not mounted'
'/dev/mtdblock3 will be erased on next mount'

than I tried;

firstboot command (as suggested) gave me error;
'JFFS2 not ready yet using temporarily tmpfs overlay'

I tried command '/etc/config'

it said 'permission denied'

as it is still working i thought to set a webinterface with luci. but dont know how ?

what would you do ?

Hi after logging in with putty type this out line by line.

mount_root

mtd -r erase rootfs_data

(this will reboot the device as part of the process)
Then login at the IP 192.168.1.1
good luck!

Thank you for the quick answer ;-)

So i just did what you wrote and the device rebooted indeed.
after which I still cannot connect to it.
it remains ping able at the adress.

could it be i need a password to login to the router ?
if so how to enter one while opening 192.168.1.1 ?

Can you SSH into the device?
If it is running Gargoyle the default password is "password"

I would reflash the thing.
I don't understand what firmware version you loaded. We only put support for this one in recently
http://lantisproject.com/downloads/gargoyle_ispyisail.php for the latest releases

Hi Lantis,

how would i reflash it if i cannot get access ?
i can get to it with putty and it pings 0 losses at 192.168.1.1
seems like a pwd violation or some way to block access as it in normal boot has wifi going and everything.
with putty i have to set a pwd which allows me in. all the rest seems to disagree...

I flashed the trunk version of dd-wrt because it is an 11.1 european wr841. that was all I could find which should work with it.
