So you're running dd-wrt?
I don't understand why you're asking here?
Everyone has been offering you advice relevant to Gargoyle

If you can get access via SSH then you can move a firmware image into the device and reflash through the command line.

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.

Could the fact that dns server was turned off before flashing
have anything to do with it ?

Any ideas anyone ? it drives me crazy to see people with similar models are working.

please advice.

So now after a few suggestions on a path of trial and error I am left with a functional router.

It gives wifi on an open network and it sends through data received from the wan port. :D

It has no gui and therefore no way off changing parameters like the ip adress. :?

because the dd-wrt trunk version removed the original boot I should reflash but have no possibility to do so as i virtually have no acces to the software in it.

Putty allows me a password related access but I cannot upload a new boot ?

Which I think leaves the remaining question, how to revert to original software ?
Which program should be used ? what commands should be given and how should the device be wired ?

Thank you for your trouble

I think you meen OpenWRT and at your command line type.
opkg update
opkg install luci
/etc/init.d/uhttpd start
/etc/init.d/uhttpd enable
then you should have a interface at 192.168.1.1
Linksys WRT3200ACM
NETGEAR Nighthawk R7800
NETGEAR R6260

I flashed the WR841Nv11.

Worked fine for me.

This is how I did it.

Gargoyle 1.9.2
1. Download the compatible firmware from the site.
2. The file” gargoyle_1.9.2-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841n-v11-squashfs-factory.bin”
3. Rename the file to” wr841nv11_tp_recovery.bin”
4. Download a 32 bit TFTP server application.
5. Install the same.
6. On the laptop / computer , change the” Internet protocol version (TCP/Ipv4 ) “ in the “ Local Area Connection Properties” “Use the following address” to “ IP Address” to 192.168.0.66 and “Subnet Mask” to 255.255.255.0 and “Default Gateway “ blank
7. Open the Tftpd32 application.
8. Browse and set the folder where the file in setp 3 is in
9. Connect the Rj45 cable between the computer and the port 1 of the TP-Link WR841N v11.
10. Whilst pressing the reset button of the TP-Link WR841N v11 router, power it up.
11. Hold the reset button till the “lock” light comes on.
12. Wait till the progress bar in the Tftpd32 goes , and the router reboots ( lights blink fast )
13. Done.
14. Change the” Internet protocol version (TCP/Ipv4 ) “ in the “ Local Area Connection Properties” “Obtain an IP automatically”
15. Open the browser.
16. Type 192.168.1.1 ( new web address of the Gargoyle firmware )
17. Program the Gargoyle as required.
18. The above process may be used to put back the original firmware of the router.
19. To the best of my knowledge, the above procedure works for many TP-Link routers.
Important :
1. Transfer the firmware using wired LAN only. Do not do the above using WiFi
2. Do not interrupt the process of firmware update, i.e. No power down computer or router, no shutdown the computer, do disconnection of the LAN Rj45 cable.

Thank you all for your help and efforts.
Once I found out how to config the tftp server it flashed the bricked router succesfully.

at the time i did not look at the 1.9.2 versions thinking they would be to modern for my routers.

now I have 2 tplink routers running gargoyle.

I would like to setup them up in a way to share one wifi network.
What settings would you recommend ?

Can i just copy the settings in both routers ? or should i change a mac adress also ?

Depends on the architecture you wish to use.

The simplest may be to set up the routers in "Wireless Bridge/Repeater" mode.
