Tor plugin install and disappeared

Post by semira »

im using gargoyle 1.6.1. on 1043ND ver 1.8 . Most of firmware features working perfectly fine without single lag or reboot. but i have one problem with tor support plugin. I already using tor browser but i want to use tor to my entire connection and then i decide to try tor support feature in gargoyle which is nice feature i think, I installed tor plugin from plugins menu and configure to client to all network actvity and select cache store location as a my external flash drive (Adata -16 gig drive). but after i configure i cant connect the internet and suddenly router itself automatically rebooted and again cant access internet. first i thought it was because of low of ramdisk space and iI changed to plugin root to flash drive. Then i try to find the tor option under connection it was not there. It completely disappeared !! :o :o :o

Then i strt again from scratch. I restore to the factory settings and re-install the tor plugin as a clean install and before i configure to client i reboot the router .. and again     tor option under connections disappeared !! :( and the plugins page clearly show that tor support installed !! i have no idea why this happened. I love so much this firmware can anyone tell me how can i fix this

Here is my putty > PS command details

Hi semira,

i had exact the same problem as you on same Router TP-Link WR1043ND v1.1.
Although I had an USB attached for additional memory to have the cached files for Tor, it always kept disappearing from the conneciton menu, after I installed the plugin and did a restart.

I could solve it, by partitioning the USB stick inside the router with a SWAP partition (25% Swap / 75% Memory). I guess it doesnt matter how really big the SWAP is, but it seems to be needed.

After having the Swap partition on the stick, and removing and reinstalling the Tor plugin from the plugins menu, Tor kept staying on the connection menu, even with a restart. No disappearing till now :)

Don't know if you still have the problem or maybe you solve yourself already, but there can be more people having the same problem.

This solution helped for 1.5.11 + 1.6.2! (this versions I tested myself)
On 1.7.x I couldnt install Tor plugin. thorugh SSH I always got the msg that a needed dependency is not found on the repo.... I don't remember anymore, but it was something with iptables.

regards,
PhanTom
