TP-Link WR941ND v3.6 revert to stock firmware

Post by mspector »

Greetings all!

I've been using Gargoyle on one of my routers and it's just awesome. But now, I need to change some things at home and I have to revert this router to stock firmware (actually, I need to install DD-WRT on it since it will be now my main router).

So, can someone please help me? Considering the notes below:

1) I've searched the forums and all I found is some stuff regarding rev5 of this router;
2) TP-Link web site will not provide the "boot" filename version for this firmware (http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/downl ... version=V3)
3) Someone posted this link (ftp://tplink-forum.pl/orgin_bez_boot/) for the "boot" firmware but there is only the v5 file.

So, I'm clueless. I'd really appreciate any help. No idea what file I can use, or how I can revert this toy to stock (or DD-WRT) firmware.

Thanks in advance!

Hello mspector

I downloaded your Firmware on TP-Link website and it seems that there is no Boot in this firmware here: http://www.tp-link.com.br/Resources/sof ... 120201.zip

Just open the zip file and rename the firmware to tplink.bin

So i suggest you can download it and flash it by uploading it in the /tmp folder of the Router and then give this commands in SSH:

cd /tmp (hit enter)
mtd -r write /tmp/tplink.bin firmware (hit enter and wait until reboot)

Good Luck

Hello Omiez,

So I need the "non-boot" version? If yes, I have them from TP-Link website.

I'm kinda hurried now, but tonight I'll do as you said and I'll let you know.

Thanks for your attention. :)

Just a bit confused... every tutorial I find elsewhere says I need a "boot" version of the firmware. So, if TP-Link do not provide it, how can I revert the firmware?
Should I use the one from another model, like WR741 or WR841?

Thanks in advance.

Hello mspector

Sorry for answering so late, yes a non _boot_ version is needed, but for future needs Tp-Link does not write anymore if there is or not the boot.

In your case there was no boot in the bin file so you coukd flash with my method mentioned.

Ask anytime before flashing and bricking your Router and you will be fine.
