2.4 & 5 Ghz wireless settings, no 300Mbps

Post by wrtmonkey »

I just installed Gargoyle today on my TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 N600. With stock firmware, I was connection @ 300 Mbps. I am only able to connect @ 130 Mbps with Gargoyle. I played around with the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channel width settings and it looks like I can connect @ 300 Mbps if I change it to 40hz (2nd chan. above) or (2nd chan. below). This is on the 5Ghz setting. Changing this on the 2.4Ghz setting doesnt seem to do anything. I also notice that there is not "auto" setting for the channel used.

1.) What should my channel settings be for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz? What does "2nd chan below" and "2nd chan above" mean?

2.) Is there a setting for Auto channel selection or should I just set see which channel in my is being used least in my neighborhood and use that?

Hi, I'm interested in this too since I seem to be not getting 300 mbps on the 2.4 GHz frequency. Only the 5 GHz frequency I'm getting 300 mbps. I tested this using the inSSIDer tool on my wife laptop.

I'm on channel 3 on the 2.4 GHz frequency and channel 48 on the 5 GHz frequency, does that matter?

Thanks.

Make sure 40 MHz is enabled. Use channel 1, 6, or 11 on 2.4 GHz, depending which is most clear. Due to 802.11n good neighbor policy, you may not be able to use 40 MHz of bandwidth if the band/channel is crowded.

Hi drawz, I changed my channel to channel 1 on the 2.4 ghz, rebooted the router and it still showing a maximum speed of 133 mpbs. But the 5 ghz is showing as 300 mbps.

At Gargoyle version 1.58, I was able to have both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz at 300 mbps each.

My router is a Netgear WNDR3700v1 with the latest Gargoyle firmware 1.59.

Let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

Try 6 or 11 also. If you are using channel 1, the 2nd channel must be "above" channel 1. If using 11, it must be "below." I can't remember how Gargoyle exposes this (back on straight OpenWrt currently).

Like I said, if you have a lot of 2.4GHz networks in the area, the good neighbor policy may stop you from using a full 40 MHz of bandwidth.

Hi drawz, I tried all channels, 1, 6, 11, even 3 to no success. My neighbours are all on 6 and only one on 8.

It was ok when I was on version 1.58. Just will have to wait when the next version comes out.

Thanks for your help.
