Netgear R6250/R6300v2 Gargoyle support

Post by amst »

Hello, after release of openwrt 19.07, the above routers are supported by openwrt.

I tried to install latest beta build 13.1 to R6250 (gargoyle_1.13.x-brcm47xx-generic-standard-squashfs.trx) but it soft-bricked the device and I used TFTP to flash original FW again.

Is there any plan to include R6250 and R6300v2 in gargoyle supported devices? specially, they are good and powerful routers to use with gargoyle.

Thanks for advice and support...

Devices with Broadcom WiFi chipsets have limited OpenWrt supportability (due to limited FLOSS driver availability for Broadcom chips). Consider this when chosing a device to buy, or when deciding to flash OpenWrt on your device because it is listed as supported. See Broadcom WiFi for details.
Although OpenWrt does run on the R6300 v2 only 802.11g is supported, Broadcom 802.11an support is very sketchy on OpenWrt in general; Broadcom 802.11ac support is non-existent. Kindly direct your complaints to Broadcom, not to the OpenWrt developers or community :).

You can try building the latest 1.13.x code from source and it should no longer soft brick (a fix was put in 2 weeks ago).

But, as per Roman's post above. Support is minimal at best, and not worth your effort.
