Gargoyle 1.12 - update from previous version

Post by lollapalooza »

Hello all,
I see that 1.12 has been released (altough the release notes are still to be published).

At the moment I'm running 1.10.0.
As far as I understand, it's not possible to preserve settings.

But is it possible to backup config, update firmare, restore config?

As last resort, I'd like to keep my bandwidth usage history for the last year... is it possible to backup that somewhere, and then restore to new firmware?

NO, settings cannot be maintained - Gargoyle 1.10.0 is built on the old OpenWrt (Chaos Calmer) platform and version 1.11.0 (1.12.0) is built on the new "LEDE" platforms. Here the configuration varies accordingly. However, you can try it manually at your own risk via WinSCP.

YES, bandwidth backup can be used, but you have to copy them manually and then restart. There are also exceptions when it crashes.

Good to know ... just one more question: where do I find the files related to bandwidth monitoring?

You are right... I missed that thread.

I was looking here, but there’s no trace of 1.12:

1. First stop the daemon:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/bwmon_gargoyle stop
2. Copy files from and to the directory via WinSCP:

Code: Select all

/usr/data/bwmon/*
3. Restart the router

I noticed that the bwmon dir has four bdist* and four total* files. Is it safe to assume that those are the key eight in terms of bw history and that you can disregard the rest in a backup/restore?

The majority are openvpn* and qos*, but in terms of bw history, it's unclear if and how they'd matter.

What does that mean?

This means that data files may be corrupted (incomplete, time shift corrupted) and the backup/restore may not be correct. Sometimes this will result in a restart loop.
