QOS question for gaming

Post by SirSWE »

Hello. Im new kinda too this. I would love too if I could get any help too improve my online gaming experience.

I live in an small apartment with my girlfriend. She's watching alot of youtube/netflix and I'm playing alot of multiplayer on xbox, spec cod games.

I got fiber optic, 100/100. In my speedtest I get around 95/95. When she's using the internet I can feel the lag spikes is F my ping sometimes, aka bullets not connection and so on.

The ports im using for xbox is 3074,3075 and 3076.

Anyone?Thanks

Qos will help smooth the connection and ensure that both of you can't saturate the line.
It won't entirely remove the ping spikes, but may be able to reduce them.
The wiki has various guides, including one for gaming.

I think my router is too weak. Im using wndr3700 v1, I think that causes the bufferbloat cuz when I do test at dslreports my CPU goes up to ”0.7”

I have ACC on, set to 95 down, I only get bufferbloat on the download but not on upload...

Well I will try Gargoyle with wrt1900 acs v2 and see if it performs better. I tried to understand the wiki, and you do you recommend to set ”minimize rrt” on the xbox ip and cod ports also creating a new catogory? Should I have the normal set to recommended Or I’m lost?

You want one fast and one slow class at the minimum.
If you can make your rules highly targeted, you will be able to prioritise only the traffic you want.
If you prioritise just the IP, there are risks that other traffic (e.g. downloads)

I don't have a setup applicable to you.
Just follow the wiki, see where you get to, and if you get stuck post back with your configuration and see if anyone can assist you.

On the upload I have a fast and one normal, the fast got 90% and normal 10%. So you want me to put the Chromecast, phones, e.tc in the normal one which is 10% and to the same on the download?

I think I almost solved it. I put my phone chromecast to a new category called streaming. I set the BW to 20%. Is it needed to set Max BW (kbps)?

The BW percentage only dictates what happens at full load on the link.
Below that, the maxbw setting will still apply.

Test your settings and see what happens.

It worked, barley any ping spikes when I stream videos now. I love this categorization, it reminds me alot of advanced tomato. Is it any way to prioritize ICMP?
