Stable/Fastest Gargoyle Router

Post by cobra98 »

Hi,
are
Linksys WRT32X AC3200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Gaming Router
(black colour)
https://www.amazon.de/Linksys-WRT3200AC ... HWWRY?th=1
and
Linksys WRT3200ACM only (blue version)
both supported by gargoyle?
And how is it called under download?
gargoyle_1.11.0-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt3200acm-squashfs-factory.img i guess for first flash!?
Safe & Stable Performance?
Or which 3 routers else would you recommend for flashing?

Both models are great. If you want to fill the routers with Gargoyle firmware, I recommend the build from @ispyisail here: viewtopic.php?f=14&p=53399#p53354

For Linksys WRT3200ACM:
If the firmware is different from Gargoyle (DD-WRT, Linksys, ...):

Code: Select all

gargoyle_1.11.x-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt3200acm-squashfs-factory.img
If the firmware is already Gargoyle:

Code: Select all

gargoyle_1.11.x-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt3200acm-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
For Linksys WRT32X AC3200:
If the firmware is different from Gargoyle (DD-WRT, Linksys, ...):

Code: Select all

gargoyle_1.11.x-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt32x-squashfs-factory.img
If the firmware is already Gargoyle:

Code: Select all

gargoyle_1.11.x-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt32x-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
Turris Omnia with OpenWrt 21.02 - Tested
Linksys WRT3200ACM with Gargoyle 1.13.x
TL-WR1043ND v2 with Gargoyle 1.10.0

I ordered now the black WRT32X AC3200 and will try to update by your suggestion.
Any things to be careful when i update? Or just go on the Update page, upload the file and set up my settings, correct?
Can i somehow transfer my DHCP devices from my other router (text file or something else)
Or i have to set it up by Screenshots from old router, i guess?

These models do not need special attention, just update the firmware, wait until reboot and Gargoyle should boot up - Follow the description on the screen.

In your case, I recommend building a new DHCP table without importing (Gargoyle DHCP works a little differently than OpenWrt).

Do not under estimate the Linksys WRT1200AC.
Great power/throughput and at a much lower price point.

What speed broadband link are you planning to use it on ?
Linksys WRT1200ACv1 - Gargoyle 1.11.0
100/40 Mbps NBN HFC

How has your experience been with the 32x? In an effort to provide some semblance of parental controls, I may offload my 1900ac to my partner and then use that as an excuse to get myself a 32x.

My 32x is stable but quirky compared to 1.10.x on a ar71xx

e.g.
For some setting/configuration to stick I needed to reboot the router after the change have been saved.

and some port-forward issues........that were fixed with manual configuration.

But the router appears to be very stable once setup.

I'm having a real tough time finding any information on the WRT32xb. Does it differ from the WRT32x in any way?

In theory, no... but I never had one to test when I added OpenWrt support for it.

If you are able to flash the regular wrt32x firmware I'd love to know about it so I can update the wiki.

I have just brought the Linksys WRT32Xb. The original Linksys firmware has some optimizations for XBox gaming which I don't care for. Apart from this small Linksys firmware change it's the same hardware as the normal WRT32X and accepts the normal Gargoyle WRT32X image firmware files. Have actually tested and can confirm compatibility.

However, the current firmware download on the Gargoyle site labeled as 1.11.0 has no working WIFI Support for the WRT32X. I found this version labeled as 1.11.x instead has perfect working WIFI.
